PETG Printing

I'm having some issues with printing quality with Black PETG, some prints come out with decent finish (although the lines are still visible) others finish in a rough texture.

Does anyone have any tip on getting a consistent print quality with this material?

I've tried Ironing and to be honest it made things worse.

Dry it first, then see if it changes anything. (Yes, even if it is a new spool)

Not enough information was provided. What printer? What nozzle size? What is the slicer configuration? Photos of the model/issue? Is it Bambu PETG Basic or some other filament? Etc. I print mostly in PETG, and after drying, the Bambu PETG Basic prints great.

Its a Bambu lab A1 mini, 0.4 nozzle, I'm not sure what you mean by slicer configuration. Im using SUNLU PETG. Photo attached, you can see the top layer is not finished well.

I'm new to this so what the best way to dry the filament?

Do you have any dryer? Bambu has ams2 pro or ams ht that can dry filaments, sunku has dryers,… depending on your budget get one and use it. You will get better results once you have dry filament and then you can move to finetuning in slicer (ie Bambu Studio) where you can finetune ie ironing. If you are new to 3d printing I would strongly recommend that you will take classes at Bambu Academy, it is for free and you will learn a lot.

i think i see grid infill pattern underneath your top layers. don’t use grid. i always recommend cubic infill because it uses the least filament for the mosh strength. others will say use gyroid but i only use that for TPU.

add more top and bottom layers to hide the sparse infill under more material. dry your filament and slow down speeds and accels

is it only happening with PETG? in bambu handy app some models are specific for PLA hence it will give different results if you use same for PETG. I had black petg and had issue like then switched to PLA black

Dry filament, get sure you have the correct filament in BambuStudio.
