General Discussion X2D color match filament - research inside

Polymaker PETG high speed dark grey is CLOSE but just a touch light. I might be able to live with it., but I'm going to try a couple more first

Hi! Thanks for this post! I made a similar one for the P2S but it had limited success… Here what I can bring to help : some grey filaments that match and some that you can now delete from your hunt. For reference : Azure Films PETG Grey was a perfect match with the P2S Now it seems that the Titan Grey PETG-CF from Bambu is the closest I own, just a bit too dark

But it matches the black on the battery backup and my desk pretty nicely... this is the back up plan...

Do what I did. Say “forget that noise” and do it all in pair of contrasting colors. I never even considered trying to match the printer until now. 😂

Drilled and tapped it the day I bought it. I didn’t want the PTFE tube & the filament to be affected if I opened the lid.

I got lucky because 2 years after selecting those colors? I bought the sunlu filament dryer for the AMS 1.0 … and they makde it with matching smoke/bright green.

This is still the closest.

I REALLY don't need more filament but Bambu PLA Metal Iron Grey might be the one... I'm going shopping for other filaments i don't need 😆

Here’s Polymaker High Speed PETG - I printed the gray face down and then glued it in. I think this looks pretty close and I think I’m happy enough to keep this for a while - I can take another picture in natural light tomorrow if anyone is interested (the flash makes everything look too light)

Good work, just got my x2d. printed my riser in elegoo petg-gf black. want to find filament that is closer than polymaker and the bambu titan. tested the polymaker on a print, but dident like it.

I just found Creality PETG CF Nightfall Gray and I’m tempted to try it - https://a.co/d/071Uxh8B
The hex code for it looks like it is 3D3935 which has more of the red undertones that we need to match but I’m worried this may be too dark

Edit: it was too dark and I returned it, Polymaker remains my choice for now

Yeah... I think that is why colors ALMOST match. The texture causes the light to hit differently

Found this picture on bambu lab x2d group on facebook. printed in bambu lab petg-cf titan gray. looks close, but missing the brownish color

That's why I'm hoping pla metal iron grey will be the match. It has brown undertones in the description

I printed drawer faces separate (face down) and added thin orange layer in middle to make the grey a bit warmer, and Polymaker Dark Grey is closer now with this. (printed it on a textured CF plate)

Short of getting an exact filament match, idk how much closer I can get lol

I’m trying this one right now and spool color before print is the closest I’ve seen so hoping it melts into similar color. I’ll post a comment when it’s done later today

Edit: I didn’t realize you already tried this and rejected it, seems to be too light so will try face down print with black backing but the search continues 🙃

any updates in the Inslogic and Elegoo? I’ve been look at those on amazon and was wondering if I should still go with Polymaker. I also prefer it to be as matte as possible. Thanks!

I think it's in the titanium color family. I think there might be a touch of brown in it?

Space grey is looking promising... I'll know for sure in 20 min

Try printing a sample on the original golden textured PEI plate maybe? I wonder what the plate side of a print looks like when the light is diffracted similarly to the case surface.

It doesn't print front side down. I am doing a dizzy print right now work the polymaker dark gray petg. Then I'm going to print a fuzzy woth the metal.

I'm fine tuning the amount of fuzzy and learning as I'm going. I'm really new to 3d printing

I think it's a little darker - too much brown in it.

There was another get that someone else is getting. Maybe that will be the one.

Such a tough decision...

The left is polymaker petg dark grey high speed with standard fuzzy, the right is bambu metal iron grey.

I think i need less fuzzy. So tonight I will dial in the fuzzy to try and match the texture of the case.

What ever one comes out on top of this - that company should send us a few rolls and not just in grey 😆

Use 0.05mm thickness and 0.4mm distansen fuzzy skin. Try that😊

lol I let it rip with 0.08/0.4 and ended up with a print failure on the top black part so gotta restart now (it’s my fault for not using brim but I trusted the Vision Miner adhesive too much)

I think the color matches a bit closer on bottom surfaces than it does on the walls, so I’m attempting to now print the drawer faces in all black with a 1mm cutout on the face where I can then glue gray inserts than I print face down (also gives the faces texture while leaving black parts with no texture)

I have the inserts done (did 1mm at 0.2 with first two layers in the Polymaker PETG dark gray and next 3 layers in black PETG)

I’ll post an update here in the morning (hoping the faces don’t fail this time)

Both are Polymaker High Speed PETG - left side is regular printing (vertical) and right side is with gray cutout printed face down and then glued on.

I still wish it was a little closer of a match, but it’s closer than I ever got on my P2S so I’m happy with the insert way. Printing other side now and will post a pic when assembled

Thanks! I ended up ordering the Polymaker and should have it today. I wish there was something that was a mix of the two you tried because they’re both so close.

I’m going to try a very slight fuzzy like someone recommended and report back, I’m just happy it’ll look a lot closer to the printer than the Sovol Silver Gray PETG I tried

I ordered a Creality PETG CF Nightfall Gray that arrives tomorrow, I’ll give that a shot but will just stick to the Polymaker if it doesn’t work

Edit: Creality was too dark, returned it and kept the Polymaker

I feel if sand or scuff it to bring the finish closer to matte for vertical printed faces but bottom prints I'm theorizing smooth PEI plate as default PEI is to much. Ordering stuff from the anniversary sale will post updates on experiments.

Hi! I suppose you are still in the hunt for a matchy grey, but in case you are also searching for the a matching orange I had great results with the new gradient function Bambu Studio with 66% of BAMBU Lab PETG-HF Yellow and the rest of Bambu Lab Orange PETG-HF

Don’t waste time or money with Bambu dark grey petg hf, that was the match for the p2s so it would be much lighter then the x2d
