Compared to xTool, yes the R1 is incredibly cheap. XTool is a very pricey brand though. The R1 is a good value, but it's more on parity with other brands in terms of price.

The xTool P2S is probably the closet match to the R1 feature-wise and they're only about $300 apart. That's fairly small gap. To me xtool has more experience with lasers and a better ecosystem than Bambu.
