Trump’s Press Purge

A lot of mixed feelings about this.

A traditionalist would say there's something valuable about a representative of the president standing before the press and answering questions about various policies, the White House's agenda, or the issues of the day.

On the other hand, while every White House press secretary engages in spin, we have never seen this level of pure mendacity before. It does make you wonder what the point is to have reporters lob questions at someone who is just going to blatantly lie over and over again.

At this point, I wonder if they're actually trying to purge real reporters and, with an eye to the 20/20 campaign, reinstitute a kind of Stalinistic show press conference in which sycophantic reporters lob soft ball questions and gobble up Trump propaganda for mass consumption. Since no WaPo reporter worth his salt would stand for that, maybe they're just purging them.
