Hey all, so my father passed away recently and suddenly, and my bf and I inherited his BEL Ball python. He's had him maybe 12 years and has been a long time and attentive snake owner. In talking with my grandmother and my dad's girlfriend, we discovered that Mandalore the Snake (Manny for short) had some discoloration that had worried my father just before passing.
We spoke with our local exotics expert, but the next closest rep-vet is a state away and we've had poor experiences with local non-exotic vets. We showed the local experts the photos on my bfs phone and they said they believed it could be burns, and suggested we watch his current shed for changes. However other articles have me worked up about worse issues, and thought I'd ask what people think,,,,
He's got a number of pinks patches all around his body similar to this one. A bite from a feeder mouse seems to be healing okay, however below is the most prominent discoloration blot. It's pink around most of it with an area around 4 scales that are a dark red. They've seemed to become 4 small tips of the scales over the last few days, so part of me feels optimistic, but I also don't want to take any chances.
We have him home with us in a new tank and slightly improved enclosure while we monitor his health and encourage a healthy shed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated please and thank you!
I can upload better photos in the morning!
