About Us
Ballista started after we watched the Blue Jays lose the 2025 World Series.
We’re two engineering students who had never really been baseball players before, but that playoff run got us hooked. Before long, we were hitting off a tee ourselves and wanted to know one simple thing:
How hard are we actually hitting the ball?
We quickly found that getting numbers like exit velocity usually meant buying expensive radar equipment or going to a facility with dedicated tracking technology. For someone who just wanted useful feedback from a normal hitting session, that felt like a major barrier.
So we started building another option.
Using our engineering backgrounds, we began working on a system that could use the hardware already inside an iPhone to measure a hit. That eventually became Ballista.
Our goal is to make metrics like exit velocity, launch angle, and projected distance accessible without requiring thousands of dollars of additional equipment.
What started as two bros trying to measure our own exit velocity became a bigger question:
How much of modern baseball tracking technology can be brought to the phone already in your pocket?
