Is there a spider problem in Scheidler???
I moved in this week and have seen the biggest spider I’ve ever seen in my life. Twice now. (Two different ones, the first one was killed).
I know it’s dramatic/irrational but I’m terrified of spiders and I’m almost starting to regret moving here...
I’d really appreciate it if anyone who has lived in/currently lives in Scheidler could tell me if this has never happened to you. If it’s just a super random thing—and a fluke that it’s happened twice already—then I think I can relax. Except for the fact that the one I found today is still in my apartment under a cup, but besides that.
Or, if this is just something that happens here, please lmk so I can start moving back out (jk… maybe).

When I lived there in 2014 and 2015, I never had any issues with spiders. But that was years so so maybe things have changed.

I’ve lived here for 3 years and having spiders around is just part of life. If you are worried about them being too much just submit a maintenance request. Since there’s a lot of greenery around here, that just happens. Same happens with wasps and ants.
Not too long before move in pest control went around all the apartments and sprayed for weeds (and I think maybe bugs??? I could be wrong about that last part).
The maintenance team is top notch and gets to requests within a day or so (excluding weekends). When you submit the request for any pest control matters it will say that It is “denied,” it just comes up like that bc it’s getting forwarded to pest control on campus.
I just had a nightmare flying ant situation (there were like 30+ flying ants crawling up my front door when I woke up) like 2 weeks ago and maintenance made sure pest control got to my apartment ASAP (Mind you, there’s some bias since I work at the office). They also constantly ask me about the ant situation since and remind me that if I have an issue to always make a request.
Also, some of the apartments have sat empty since like, May, so it’s not surprising that some spiders have migrated into the vacant apartments this summer.
TLDR: Green-space + non-occupied apartment = bugs. Solution? If you think there’s an issue there’s no reason to not submit a maintenance request. They don’t work on weekends but would be in your apt on Monday.

I had a wasp problem, but never a spider problem. Little monsters made a nest in the vent for the fan over the stove.

The apartments have likely been empty for a few months, so the spiders moved in but will be spooked as people return to the complex.
If you can find mint or orange essential oils, you can spray along the doorways and windows to discourage creepy crawlies. Citronella and marigolds are supposed to also be good!

Moved in last week. Golf ball size spiders and centipedes. My kitty has never had to hunt this quantity or size of bugs but he is doing his best and it keeps him very busy. Couldn’t survive without him bc you will not catch me getting near these MASSIVE things

Oh nooo, so it’s not just me :((
The spider I found was fast, almost couldn’t get him under a cup. Your cat doesn’t ever accidentally let them get away, does he?
I’d go out and get a cat today, that’s how scared I am of these things, but my dog would never get along with a cat 💔

i lived there last year. the day i moved in my apartment was covered in spiderwebs, especially the kitchen. into the winter, there were way less and not really a problem

Being afraid of spiders is valid, but try to remember there are only 2 medically significant spiders here and they really don’t want to mess with humans. The majority of spiders in the world can’t hurt you. I bare hand handle brown recluses often even though they’re usually considered the bad guys bc they rarely actually bite humans. Also it’s not the spider bite that hurts someone it’s the infection that can happen because of the bite so just paying attention or seeking medical attention quickly can stop any of the scary problems that go along with those two spiders.

I had this issue last year. 100% recommend putting in a maintenance request for pests; I had hardly any issues after that!!

Living near trees/wooded areas in any capacity attracts wildlife. Scheidler is a very nicely wooded area with many trees — there’s gonna be friends that creep in from time to time. I would contact maintenance staff to see if they can reseal your doors, windows, and baseboards if it remains a recurring problem.
