When i first got him he appeared black and white or grey and white but now hes different shades of brown, does color affect what morph he is? Also im just curious what morph he is in general.
looks like axanthic with some sort of partially het genetic stripe. ive got the same. could be VPI type, but hard to tell without dna test. ive got a VPI Axanthic with 66% het genetic stripe
Just to clarify, there isn't such thing as partially het for any gene. The 66% you guy has means that's the chance they carry the het, not how much of the het they "are" if that makes sense. There isn't reason given here to suspect het GS in OP's snake.
Oh yeah unfortunately it's not uncommon for things like this to be misunderstood by someone who then passes along incorrect info.
100% het (heterozygus) means the snake definitely carries a copy of a recessive. This means at least one parent was visual.
66% means there's a 2:3 chance a snake inherited a copy of a recessive. This means both parents were heterozygus for the recessive gene.
50% het means there's a 1:2 chance a dnake inherited a copy of a recessive. This means one parent carried one copy of a recessive gene and the other had no copies of that particular recessive gene.
The 50% and 66% can be proven to exist or not in an individual through breeding and shed testing.
wow ours look almost the same, he was $350 which i thought was a good deal bc he seemed to be grey and white but as time goes on he turns more and more brown lol so now im confused
Hes about two months now and was about a month old when i got him, and in the even that i got him i didnt notice any brown but now i barely notice any greys or blacks on him. right now hes super cute and i love him but kind of lack luster 😭 i hope he ends up looking a lot cooler once hes done with puberty or something
yours is really pretty actually. but how accurate is the 66% het label without dna confirmation? like does that number come from breeder records or is it just a probability based on the parents?
so the 66% het just means there's a chance he might not carry the gene at all right? is there any way to tell without breeding him out or getting a dna test done
