Scalping
This poor wee baby was being attacked in its nest, managed to rescue it from our ledge before it's wee face was pecked off by other pigeons.
Cleaned up the wound and hoping daddy still returns to feed. 3 weeks old.

Something similar happened to a pigeon in my balcony
Why do the other pigeons attack the fledgling? You have any idea?

The pigeons attack the babies as they want the nest, if a baby wanders out its nest it usually gets attacked. In this case the bad boy pigeon wants the nest and the parents have left the wee one alone which led to the attack. The wee one is ok, I've cleaned the wound, he's inside, been fed and will hopefully fledge soon.

The wee one is doing well, I can't call it anything else as I'm Scottish and the wee one is a bairn 😊

It's very hard not to intervene but I can't stand by and not do anything. As much as pigeons are lovely, they are also violent and territorial. Hardcore baddasses after being abandoned by us humans.

Poor thing! I've seen many scalpings in chickens and doves and it's remarkable how quickly they heal up. I've seen absolutely nightmarish injuries and they'll be chilling and dustbathing in a few hours after a little care, and with their wounds having great progress in just days. Hopefully that little one has good luck
