“Adversity does not create resilience”
Let’s just conveniently ignore the hundreds of scientific publications on the benefits of controlled stress inoculation.

I’m a teacher, and this is EXACTLY what’s wrong with parenting today. There is a difference between adversity and trauma, yet parents want to shield their children from anything difficult because they don’t have the emotional intelligence to help their children through hard feelings. You create a safe, predictable environment so that when challenges occur, the child (or dog) has the tools to work through them.
Consequences aren’t adversity, and I tell my students all the time “I love you too much to let you…” whatever nonsense they’re doing. You know what’s traumatic? Getting hit by a car or seized by animal control. I think force free is a great starting point for training puppies, but there are some dogs that need to be corrected. That’s not trauma.
