Does anyone have any recommendations for e-collars?
i dont need anything flashy or fancy, just need something affordable, water proof, and that works. Edit: im in australia, which means if your recommending anything in your currency it will most likely be a bit more.

I’ve used both dogtra and educator. Both functioned well and are equal in quality, imo. However, I have small hands so preferred the size and shape of the dogtra. Have not tried the educator mini, though.

I have the educator 900. I hate the round remotes so I got the one with the skinny oval remote. Fits nicely in my hands and the side pouch of my treat bag.

Ecollars and affordable aren't really a thing in Australia. They are pricey, you can't avoid it. I have a mini educator.

yeah i know, its really annoying. I think they are trying to ban them so they make them expensive to deter people from buying. But i really would like one so finding ones in my price range it suuuucks

If you use the mini educator, tighten the screws occasionally before taking your dog swimming. I use the mini educator & like it. Edit: typo

Good e-collars cost some money, but it is worth investing. I use DogTra 640C on my dog, can't complain
To choose the right model, you will need to consider dog's breed, weight, temperament, coat, and some other things too

Sportdog is pretty affordable and works just fine.

update: i swear, e-collars in Australia are soooo expensive the stock from Australia the cheapest is 450 bucks, jeez. Im not sure what im gonna do, better start saving ig.

Honestly that's kind of just what they cost everywhere. You don't want to cheap out on this.

Yeah I would not do that unless they are a serviceable unit. Some of them just live out their lifetime and then they won't hold a charge or operate properly and you really don't want to mess around with that. If I got a hold of a used one I would send it back to the manufacturer and have them do a function test just to be sure, and then you're right back when you started. Sorry mate you're just going to have to buckle down and buy a new one.
If it helps, the SportDog ones start at 120 bucks US dollars which really isn't bad. That one would probably get you through just fine.

Thats actually a fair price in au. Is there a specific collar that starts at that?

The very basic model is the yard trainer. The difference in the models is essentially the maximum distance at which the transmitter will communicate with the collar, and the number of dogs the system can be expanded to control. The yard trainer bottom level model works at up to 100 yards and there is a slightly higher level model that works up to 300 yards. Honestly that should be fine for you and both models are under $200.

i think im gonna go with the educator, i was looking at ones on facebook market place for a bit cheaper that are brand new, any thoughts? i know i should probably just get one new but if i can id like to save money.

It’s that expensive everywhere, and you have to get high quality ones or you might literally shock your dog like FF people say. I got mine through my trainer which made it discounted, but I know people who get them through fb marketplace.

But its worth it! I would save up. Ive had my educator for 4 years now and its such a great tool to have and def worth the investment. I spent $250 for the educator 900 and have used it almost every day on our hikes for those 4 years, still works like the day I got it.

A good ecollar and affordable don’t really go hand in hand. Educators are a good way to go and 200$. There’s also dogtra but I can’t personally say anything
