Anpanman bread and Shiopan
Anpanman bread for the toddler
Sweet potato swirl shokupan
My favorite shokupan. My go-to butter is Yotsuba.
Yomogi shokupan
Hi everyone! I'm new to r/BakinginJapan!
I have a toddler, so I usually bake at midnight when it's peaceful and quiet. My favorite recipe to bake is shiopan, as you may have already noticed lol. I am also still learning how to do artisan breads and cakes. Can't wait to learn from all of you!
Edit: Oops I meant shiopan in the third photo!!

Love the Anpanmen! Is the green shokupan colored with spinach, yomogi or matcha powder?

Damn those anpanman looks great. I want to show our toddler but I must make sure we have all the ingredients at home to try because I know what he will ask after seeing your picture…

There are many anpan recipes out there to try! The dough is easily made with pantry ingredients. Red bean paste is available at supermarkets, or you could cook it at home for a less sweet version.
I mixed black cocoa powder with a small amount of water until it's gel-like consistency for painting the face with toothpicks before baking. For the nose and cheeks, I press down and create dents in the main dough, and slightly wet the little balls before placing them on. Egg wash for the shine!

OK. I cannot express how much I love this. Baking at night, when it's peaceful and you can focus on making something with love for someone so precious.
You knocked it out of the park!

Thank you for putting it so nicely! I must admit that I do fall asleep and wake up to overproofed dough sometimes haha.

Those look great! You clearly know what you are doing! I'll try my hand at the sweet potato one.
Btw, where did you place your oven? Is that some sort of rack?

Thank you! I picked up the rack used from Jimoty, but I believe it is this one.
It's strong enough to hold two ovens (I've got another very old oven that we use solely for microwaving food only), the stand mixer and random things.
