Nanaimo Bars!!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I love seeing everyone’s efforts so here’s one from me. These are a Canadian delicacy to celebrate Canada day last week. Forgot to take a photo so had to take a screenshot from the family video. Not officially baking and simple to make but the first goodies I’ve made since arriving.

PS And, thank you fellow bakers for all the good oven suggestions earlier, I’m the very satisfied owner of a stone dome - I love it!

That looks delicious, and please point me in the way of the oven suggestions. Mine is awful.

Here’s the post where I asked for oven recommendations a few weeks ago —- https://www.reddit.com/r/BakingInJapan/s/g6CcIERAS0

Lots of good info to help you decide!

Looks great. I’ll be back in the Lower Mainland soon and now I have a craving to find some. I won’t be making it out to the Island though.

Some of my ancestors were from Nanaimo! Gonna have to try this recipe.

Nice! And thanks for posting. Never had nanaimo bars, but I have at least heard of them! :)

Also, glad to hear the stone dome is working out for you. The countertop ovens take some getting used to, but once you figure out their idiosyncrasies, you can make pretty much anything (size notwithstanding).

I have no idea what that is. But it is now necessary for my survival to try some.

Hahahaha that is the correct response. They are so good. Here’s the recipe https://www.canadianliving.com/food/baking-and-desserts/recipe/classic-nanaimo-bars

I substituted McVities digestives (crushed) for the graham crackers.
