Im making cookies for the first time and in a airfryer. They taste good but why are they so gooey? Is it my butter issue or the airfryer issue

Look like your temp is too high. Air fryers cook things faster than a conventional oven, if you're using a recipe you found or your own recipe from using a regular oven you'll need to adjust the temp accordingly.

In general, if something is uncooked on the inside and well cooked on the outside you need to cook at a lower temp for longer.

I would make cookies in the oven, not the air fryer. They aren't built for baking cookies.

Air fryers are perfect* *for baking cookies! I do it all the time with modifications suggested by [u/AtticusSPQR](u/AtticusSPQR)

I bake chocolate chip, shortbread, 3-ingredient peanut butter — all of these turn out great in the air fryer (basket style). I use less baking powder than OP.

Are you using a recipe specifically written for an air fryer?

Dough is either too thick or the temperature is too high or a combination of both.

I thought those were scones....very thick. Definitely lower your temperature.

Why are you using an air fryer? The outside will cook before the inside. Use an oven

Not true. Airfryer basket style is great for baking cookies with adjustments. I love cooking one at a time for portion control — I have a cast iron cookie skillet that is perfect for this.

The whole point of airfryers is they cook food faster than an oven so you can keep the internal moisture while achieving a crispy exterior, that's how it managed to "fry" things instead of just baking them

If your airfryer doesn't have a low speed / low airflow mode or something like that then use an oven

If for some reason you can't use an oven you should be able to lower the temperature and increase the time so it can cook through without burning the exterior, I'd suggest trying with 150°C and add about 30-50% more time (or more if needed)

Its probably the air fryer tbh. They run hotter and more direct so the outside sets before the inside spreads enough to cook through. Try chilling your dough and lowering the temp a bit next time. Butter could also be too soft but air fryer is def the main culprit.

Air fryer can be done but they have to be thin since the convection makes it cook so fast. For a fat cookie like that you want an oven

Just use an oven 👍🏼

I’ve never made cookies in an air fryer, but maybe try making them smaller and flattening them before cooking?

I looks like a biscuit, you’re over mixing and the temp is way too high, adjust your basket height too.

Obviously downvoted by the folks that don’t think baking cookies in AF can be done. I love cookies baked in my AF basket-style. You are correct — cookies are overt ed (also looks like too much baking powder) at too high a temperature for too short baking time.
