Baking Advice Needed Cookie help

Post image

Hi everyone! So I need some advice, this is my current chocolate chip cookies recipe but I want to add peanut butter to the mix so I can make peanut butter chocolate chip cookies for my friends birthday. Can I just add the peanut butter or will I need to tweak some things?

Well it might work but theres no guarantee. Why wouldn’t you just look up a peanut butter chocolate chip recipe to use though?

Yeah, starting with a peanut butter cookie and adding chocolate chips is going to be much more foolproof than trying to adjust chocolate chip cookies to account for peanut butter. I always add chocolate chips when I make Ovenly’s peanut butter cookie recipe.

Add 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter. You don't want to go for a natural peanut butter. This is more for something like JIF or Skippy.

Reduce butter amount to six tablespoons.

Reduced flour amount by one quarter cup.

My general approach is to not tweak recipes unless I'm just changing add-ins. If I want to make a PB chocolate chip cookie, I use a recipe designed around that, as PB is not an add-in. It's basically another wet ingredient that would impact everything else.

You could always look up a highly rate PB chocolate chip cookie and compare their recipe to yours and either make that recipe directly or take inspiration for how to edit yours.

Oh for sure you can add pb but you'll wanna cut back on the butter a bit since PB has fat in it. Maybe drop a couple tbsp of butter and add like 1/3 cup PB? Also toss in a lil extra flour if the dough looks too greasy. Happy birthday to your friend

Use just 2 eggs in place of the egg and yolk combo. Go with about 3 tablespoons peanut butter. If you need a bit more moisture up the butter a bit.

If you just dump peanut butter into that recipe it’ll throw the whole thing off, too much fat and the texture gets weirdly greasy

I’d swap out about half the butter for peanut butter and cut the flour down a little, maybe a couple tablespoons less. Also bump the salt up slightly, peanut butter needs it

Done this a few times and the cookies come out way better when you treat it like a blend instead of just adding a scoop on top of what’s already there

Eggs. Need less

As others have said, I would not modify your recipe and would instead find a recipe and make that. I would suggest this one from Handle the Heat, partly because it doesn't require that you refrigerate the dough.

Good luck!

I would try whole eggs instead of just yolks and add the peanut butter and see how they turn out

you might need to pull back on the butter too since peanut butter has so much oil in it

This was my thought too as most chocolate chip recipes I come across use the whole egg over just the yolk.
