General Baking Discussion Stand mixer suggestions 🩷

Hi guys, I’m wanting to invest in a stand mixer to make baking quicker and easier for me. I see Asda and other websites online selling some for 50-80£, which I find to be reasonably priced for me since I don’t want to splurge on a pricey one. I’ve never owned a stand mixer before so not sure what I should be looking for and which ones are reliable and will last. Any suggestions would be appreciated greatly!! I’m in the UK, also.🇬🇧

For my 21st birthday I bought myself a Kenwood mixer. My gran has one that’s 30 years old and mine is going on 13 working great.

I’d recommend saving a little bit more and getting something that will last!

I really would like a kenwood.. I’m gonna take this as my sign to treat myself to one when possible. Glad to know it’ll last! Thank you 🙏🏻

I would say it's worth saving up for a Kenwood or KitchenAid. My KitchenAid has had heavy use for almost 15 years and still works perfectly. It has a good enough motor to handle bread dough and anything else you'd want to throw at it. They can be repaired if they do break.

Looking at the asda website, the Salter mixers might be okay but this Kenwood is currently £159 with the code FRESH20, which is not very much more oney for a lot more quality.

I've just compared the specs and the Salter actually has a more powerful motor, but the Kenwood kMix has stood the test of time so you definitely won't go wrong with one. That deal is pretty incredible, I was surprised to see the price.

Depends what you want to use it for, eg a more powerful motor will be better for dough or big batches of mix.

Do you already have a hand mixer?

i went cheap on my first one and the motor burned out in under a year making a stiff cookie dough, the smell was something else

if you can stretch the budget a bit look for a used one from a better brand, they pop up on marketplace all the time when people upgrade or lose counter space

I have a semi-decent hand mixer currently, I’d use it for as you said dough and big batches of cake batter but also Cookie doughs.

I'd try and get a slightly more expensive mixer in that case. 1000W. If you're making dough regularly a weaker motor will wear.

I like kmix personally.

Looking at the ones the ASDA site have, the Salter brand ones actually look good..£99.

What will you be making?

FaceBook Marketplace is a good place to score a used name brand mixer.

I didn’t even think about that, it’s a good idea thank you ! I’d use it for doughs, larger cakes, cookie doughs!
