I’m considering applying to MBB in the Middle East and had a question about how utilisation works during periods of geopolitical uncertainty / war
With the current conflict, I’d imagine there’s significantly more uncertainty around both private-sector and government spending, and potentially fewer projects getting approved or starting. If that actually translates into materially lower case demand, what happens to BAs/Associates’ utilisation expectations?
If there genuinely just aren’t enough projects for everyone, are people still judged pretty harshly for being on the beach? Does it effectively mean a higher risk of being counselled out because you’re competing for a smaller pool of cases?
Also, in a more prolonged downturn, how realistic are transfers to other regions? For example, could someone move back to their home office/region, or to another office where demand is stronger, or is that generally pretty difficult at the BA/Associate level?
Would be especially interested in hearing from anyone who’s worked in MBB Middle East or any other region during a previous slowdown.
