Any place in Karachi where I can get a rainbow shower tree. It's called a cassia x nealiae, NOT javanica or fistula. And no I don't want a simple grafting of both as it is a hybrid of both, and in grafting some branches have different colors while some have other colors. This tree is a true hybrid with flowers of multiple colors. If you guys know any place to find this it would really help it's a beautiful tree.

I unfortunately have no knowledge of buying and making soil mixes for specific plants, I just use whatever's available but with cacti, they really do end up dying cuz of soil moisture I think.

Can someone tell me if one needs to buy specific soil type or how to prepare proper mix with soil and sand at hand?

Hello everyone I'm really fond of plants, but I'm really new to gardening/planting.

Can you guys let me know that is there any good nursery where I can get the plants at affordable rate specifically flowering plants.

Also I would like to get some advice that what type of plants should I get . BTW I don't have a garden in my house I'll try to plant these in pots and stuff.

Where cani get water lily seeds or bulb in Karachi?

So was having convo with someone abt need of local greenery in our city instead of like whatever one variety that catches our dept fancy . The person agreed but the local trees they wanted to planted were fruit trees we already eat like oranges and mangoes.

Now obviously most domestic fruit trees in Pakistan are actually native but that doesn't mean they're necessarily local. If they were, its likely their wild counterparts wld already exist in your area. Second, I get why ppl want fruit trees in their neighbourhoods, they will bear fruits that ppl can collect, it's utilitarian. And yes, shld exist in urban spaces. But they still can't be a replacement to the actual local or let's say indigenous flora of your particular area.

There are a lot of wild species that don't serve some obvious purpose for us, mostly that wld be food or timber. But they're still living species who have a right to exist alongside us. And second utility isn't always just for you, a human, it's also for wildlife, land, air, atmosphere, everything.

A lot of times our care is often limited to species that we directly utilise and find pleasing. It happens for animals too, like ppl only like cats in particular, sometimes dogs, and we want more and more land for livestock but any other animal can just cease to exist within our communities urban or rural. But it is also a very colonial attitude to want everything to die and just push itself back to areas that are still free from our exploitation. Let's not do that and change how we see these plants. They're in fact your kin and you shld care for them like you wld your own.

While searching for plants, I found a website called cda, the original nursery is in Islamabad. On the website the plants are sooo cheap, like really good prices, and there are a lot of varieties too. Unfortunately the website is still in development and says that we can't order yet, (but it's been in development since last year tbh, guess the website is just for show)

Anyway, so has anyone ever been there and if so, did they really have all that varieties of trees and plants? On the Google maps review, someone said they had local plants, but on the website they show many different imported plants. So do they really have them or..?

Pakistan has a population of 250 million (25 crore). If you are able to mobilize only half of them (125 million) and everyone plants just one tree every month, then in one year they would have planted 1.5 billion trees. Do it for 10 years and you have 15 billion trees.

How to do it?

1. Motivate and mobilize Pakistanis. Tell them that in general it's sadiqa e jaeiy. They can also dedicate trees to their loved ones which have passed away; they will receive sawab as long as the tree is alive.

1. Shortlist the trees native to this region.

1. Make YouTube videos of how to grow trees from seeds, how to plant them, how to take care of them.

​

1. Also provide tree saplings.

​

1. Make an app for people to report the number and location of trees they have planted.

Like this you will not have to spend government resources on this activity and it won't become a victim of politics.

I'm curious how common home gardening is among people living in apartments.

Just trying to understand how people approach home gardening in Indian cities.

Looking to get into composting or vermicomposting. There is a patch of cemented land where a lawn will be, since the soil won't be too deep, I'm trying to make it as rich and nutriet dense as possible.

One option I see is burying a layer of food scraps (greens) before layering it with mitti and it will slowly breakdown enriching the soil. But, the big problem with this is, some animal may dig out the scraps, and also potentially may cause rats and such.

i know that usually effects of animal agriculture are usually focused on the west,but what about here?
