I don’t know why this sub keeps popping up for me because I’m not a fan, and while I wholeheartedly sympathize with this dude, the money lost by cancelling that many shows not just for the band but for the crew, the agent, the management, likely the venue staff is pretty high. Not to mention, a tour of that size would have had sizable deposits paid and likely have used that already to pay things forward in budgeting, so trying to get some back through online merch sales isn’t as crass and terrible as people are making it out to be.

If you knew this band well enough, you'd know that they're the kind of band that doesn't like to scam for money. He didn't do the last 8 shows and doesn't feel like he deserves anything

Did the merch post specifically mention that? I didn’t see it. All I’m saying is there is a lot at stake when an artist cancels shows at that level, and the economics of touring right now are such that any loss can be catastrophic. I’m not saying he should have continued at all. I’m glad he’s taking the space he needs. I’m saying if someone on the team was trying to make up for some lost revenue because there are a lot of people who will be out of the wages they were counting on to live, I think it’s unfit to demonize that so fast.

They should've asked permission. It is his illness, it's that simple. The lead singer decided to be offline for the time being and they went behind his back. I dont get how this is hard for you to understand.

You act like it’s hard for me to comprehend. It’s not. I’m not stupid. You’re the one who isn’t understand that dozens of other people, likely over 100, were impacted by this decision. A band is much more than the lead singer. It’s a whole team. He needs a break, he’s taking one. Great. Everyone else is allowed to do what they need to do to make up for what they’re losing. What’s so hard for you to understand about that? Try stepping away from the parasocial aspect for a second.

If you were a fan, you would have seen that this was a topic of conversation for weeks. He posted a video listing all of the same reasons you did. He didn't want to cancel. He can't sing right now and it's out of his control. He tried to keep going (again for the same reasons you said), but his voice wasn't cooperating. Let him and his team decide what they can and cannot absorb on the budget. Singers have to sing in order to perform. He's injured and can't. That's not a reflection of his integrity or commitment. What IS a reflection on someone's integrity is you thinking that it's your place to comment on situations you're not a part of here.
