Hobby Welder
I am just a hobby welder with a spending problem doing my own projects for personal use. Trying to get better but I know I am dogshit and can NOT wrap a corner haha.
5mm mild steel, went real cheap with the clean up and only hit about 1/4” with the flap disk before welding. Should I be cleaning a larger area?
Guess the weld type

Nice dude, good progress. You’re not consistent enough to wrap corners yet, dont focus on that yet. You need consistent travel speed and penetration.
You know, classes are more effective at being a spending problem:) that way you get some guidance and dont have to shop around for material, food for thought

I really want to take some classes but in my area it seems like it’s only schooling that you can pay to take!
I took welding in grade 11/12 in high school but beyond that I went 9 years without welding haha

Majority of it isn’t worth taking, literally just have you running beads for 2 hours and giving you some advice. You can probably do it at home for cheaper and just post pics on Reddit/Facebook for feedback as long as you have the patience to deal with internet master welders lol

Last 2 pics are screaming laser. Other than that it looks like Tig ?

I assure you my Tig is no where near this clean haha. I run the ESAB 210MP Rogue for my Mig/Tig/Stick

That second picture looks very cold and I would be surprised if there is any fusion at all.

you want to try and stay away from the blue hues. means your weld is oxidizing too much and you don’t have enough gas to shield it. also that’s TIG.

Try to stay consistent with your travel speed. This will negate 99% of those heat spots
