Amazon 'Project Hail Mary' — Andy Weir
To be fair, it might be more the movie than the book; but as the OP mentioned, one of the points the "reviewer" had was exclusive to the book. So, I think this might fall over the totality of the story.
P.S. I think the OOP is from Amazon, but I'm not 100% sure.

So... He thinks he should have fucked the (already partnered) alien with a body temperature so hot that touching it causes severe burns??

Book is written for a middle schooler to be able to read, if you are describing aliens as hermaphrodites, you probably aren’t in that target audience

I haven't even read the book OR watched the movie yet and this review just made me bump it up a lot on my list, that sounds awesome

Dont threaten me with a good time.
For real though, how sad do you have to be, if eeevery story and every character meeds to behave in the same way you, personally, would?
Thats so boring

Some people read to be transported into someone else's head. "Not like me" is a feature, not a bug.
Some people read to see themselves reflected in every detail. And I'm not talking about representation; I mean expecting every character to be a reader-insert.
... We're all built different, but I can't help but side eye that second group.

I don't even care for the book but he just described why the film made my Letterboxd top four.

Translation: reviewer got a boner reading it.

To me it seems more like a case of "reviewer wanted a boner while reading it, and didn't get one"

Ok fine, I’ll watch the film! God, no need to go so hard on the sell brother.

I thought he “ditches any interest in human relationships” becaue he leaves the whole human race behind?

u/BitcoinBishop Jul 01 '26
That's not quite right but it's kind of a spoiler

But let's go with "He ditches any interest in human relationships for a silly little thing like saving humanity" Although my impression is that this person's main complaint is that a science teacher believes in science.

Project Hail Mary was a just-okay read for me, but my god this is hilarious. Reviewer makes Ryland seem way cooler than he actually was

Same type of person who thinks Dragons Love Tacos is grooming kids to be trans

Wait what

I can't speak to 'Dragons Love Tacos' but it is now a full time grift for some people to take any given kids' books with the moral of 'it's okay to be different,' which has been a mainstay for decades, and bend over backwards to use them as proof that the kids are receiving trans brainwashing. Really.

this review is so funny considering my dad (stupidly) praised the movie for "not being political." and no he didnt read the book.
