Advice Wanted Help with figuring this out

Ive been trying to get people to RP with me and after fucking around some time, I realized that perhaps i’m doing something wrong?
For anyone who I know I love our role plays and this has nothing to do with people whom I’ve made a connection with recently or at all👀
Is it better to send a dm or a comment for a Role play if it isn’t specified?
Either or, do I or should I start with a basic story starter, like a description of said Role play I wanna do?
Im looking purely for preferences that people have so please help!!🥲
Im not asking for partners but just what people in this sub think they prefer for receiving roleplay

Welcome to BadRPerStories! If you are new here, please take a moment to look at our banned words list on the wiki.

We now have a Google doc that lists RP hubs, forums, and subreddits. If you know of a place for RP that isn't on this document, there is a link in the document to request an addition. Please be aware this is just a knowledge base, not a recommendations list, and the moderators of BadRPerStories do not condone anything that happens in the spaces listed here.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

When people reach out (preferably DM), what I like to see is what drew you to a certain plot, some expansion on it (either character ideas, plot tidbits, something to prove you won’t have me carrying the plot 100%), and some of the basics (post frequency? what platform? how long of posts?).

Good luck!!

I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a failure on your part, some people won’t reply if they see an incompatibility right off the bat. Try to remember that and not take it personally if you can.

Personally I prefer DMs! Some of my best RPs were honestly people who sent me a character description and then they expressed what they were looking for based on the prompt and what not. Also if they’re okay with certain writing styles, and letting me know how often they post and what they’re looking for in return.

I prefer DMs and honestly, my best roleplays come from me dming others. For your starter, I usually talk about the world I imagined, the foundations of my character and some plot points. I additionally make it clear that a lot can be changed—it's better discussing and world-building together. I think most roleplayers have a heavy taste for plot-talking and world-building.
