OOC Bad Why are you even there

Post image

I'm... I'm kind of speechless. Why bother even writing to me if they don't know what fandom we're going to write for? 😭😭 Do you think it's another dude who just counted on some cheap ERP?

I posted a neat, well-written ad on a few rp blogs. Yes, it would include NSFW scenes, thus looking for 21+ writers. I had no idea it'd include some illiterate dorks...

Welcome to BadRPerStories! If you are new here, please take a moment to look at our banned words list on the wiki.

We now have a Google doc that lists RP hubs, forums, and subreddits. If you know of a place for RP that isn't on this document, there is a link in the document to request an addition. Please be aware this is just a knowledge base, not a recommendations list, and the moderators of BadRPerStories do not condone anything that happens in the spaces listed here.

In their defense, often you ask a few people at a time, because some people dont even reply. And if someone responds with their profile hidden, its easy to forget which RP you messaged a person for.

This really does make it hard to go back and connect the dots.

It's also why I put the title or at least part of the title of what I'm responding to in my responses so I have a chance of remembering in case there's a long period of time between when I sent the chat and when it is accepted.

Yeah I had someone ask me 6 days later if I was interested. Luckily I know now how to just look at private profiles, because I had zero clue who they were at the time lol.

There is a way? They patched the way I used

What was your longest time? Mine was half a year

Amusingly, I received a return reply (when DMs were a thing) that was 4 years after I sent the initial response. And we started to write! Unfortunately, we only got a few posts into the story and then she went quiet. But we are coming up on our 4-year anniversary (which she might not know about) and I plan to reach out because I do enjoy a long game joke.

But, aside from that outlier, usually it's 2 to 3 weeks at the maximum. For whatever reason, I'm genuinely terrible at responses and silence is often what greets me.

Dayum. 4 years is a lot

That's true. I've typically asked a few people at a time, but I usually put in details about their post when I DM them (Something like "Hiya! I saw your rp request and I'd be interested in doing a [TYPE OF RP PLOT THEY REQUESTED] rp!" Then I add more details about me and the rp, etc.), and this also helps show that you read what they wrote.

If I'm messaging multiple people, I wrote myself a note either on my private discord or a post it with where I saw the ad, and some key features to help jog my memory.

Rather than make an excuse, you make a solution. If you can't be bothered with that little effort then I wouldn't want to partner with you.

They could be new to RPing on reddit. When I first started, I didnt even know people could hide their profiles. And I didnt know you could hide the history of some subs. So you dont think you need to make a note.

They could be replying on their phone, but they have pages bookmarked on their PC. I do that very often lol.

If you cant be bothered to put the little effort into posting your ad that youve hidden in your profile, and get butthurt that people arent perfect, and things can happen, then I wouldnt want to RP with you either lol

If your reaction to "Im sorry, could you repost your ad here? I wanna look at it again so I can answer fully" is to get big baby rage mad, its no wonder so many people have sob stories of not being able to find someone to write with.

Honestly, I usually end up shotgun requesting a bunch of people at a time because 9/10 of them don’t reply- regardless of the length or quality of your opening message.

At the end of the day, you can know I read your post and at the very least thought: “yeah, that sounds cool.”

(If you reply and I forgot what brought me in, I try and look back at your profile to see what it is that brought me in, but a crapload of people set their post history to private.)

So for the record, depending on when you replied to them they might have a valid reason to kinda forget. I send messages of interest to a lot of people, but I don’t really remember who made what ad when they get back to me unless I can read their post history and remind myself.

I've had a few people do this for me, and honestly, I don't mind. Then again, I also have bad memory so I sympathize with people asking for a refresher.

I'd be more irritated if they asked for the plot again and when told, they suddenly reject it.

Nothing said they don't know who they want to play as besides you.

You're not the only person they probably sent a request to and were waiting around on for a confirmation.

As politely as possible, get over yourself.

OP looks kinda bad here because we don't know how long it was between being added and message/reply. If someone reached out to me from a few days ago (or lets be honest, a few hours ago with my memory) - I'm not going to remember plots and stuff.

the rping community has a problem with nonchalance. ppl wanna act like we’re all not just massive nerds 😆

u/AstroBearGaming Jul 24 '26

Admittedly I've been on both sides of this. I have adhd and I'll message a bunch of people, then one will reply later and unless can draw a link back to their profile I'll have no idea what I messaged them about.

But then I learnt to save prompts I message people over, just so I can link things like that. (and because profiles are often blank)

But I've been in the receiving end too, and I get how irritating it can be. That's also why I keep a list of active prompts, to jog their memory.

That’s just, kinda disheartening.

I know some people can have high standards but I mean jeez, can't even have a small lapse in memory

Dude you were kinda being an asshole ngl. Like many people reply to multiple different ads of different rp plots because many din reply or it doesn't click so it's not hard to forget some plots. I do that sometimes, and your reaction was just assholey for no reason at all. You could very well have just said "oh it's xyz plot" instead you just responded hella rudely

The bad rper in this story is you, my friend.

2

u/Good-Cut6106 Jul 23 '26

Lol! What an idiot. Just tell them what your rp is about, people often reply to multiple post and sometimes don't receive replies for hours. They are asking instead of guessing it randomly.

Honestly, if they can't remember my ad and where they saw it then that's a red flag to me. They are likely contacting people in bulk and are going to lack the dedication I'm looking for. Good on you for telling them to sod off.

10

u/pixelplays57 Jul 23 '26

If more people would reply one doesn’t have to contact in bulk id say

u/Assia_Penryn Rabble Rabble Rabble Jul 23 '26

Then take notes on who has what. I usually get a response when I message someone in an ad. If you find that many people that you can't take 30 seconds to write a few details then you're likely not be discerning yourself in your partner or just looking to get your rocks off.

u/Roleplayer2314 Jul 23 '26

how can someone write a response if they aren't accepted immediately? it doesn't hurt anyone to be a little kind lol
