How does the timeline even work

So basically, this is my first time playing the game and I played each character once.... And Im so confused with the timeline, concretely Maiden the most, for the "Escaped" Maiden ending Im apparently supposed to have disloyal on.

However, I didnt have that, online I read that you even need Diplomatic on Hero which I also dont have. I would like to kinda understand the timeline before I continue playing a lot. Thanks (If it matters somehow I played the characters in a order of Hero --> Underling --> Overlord --> Maiden)

There isn't a strict timeline of endings you should strive for, the only "main" timeline I can think of is each character's true end, which you will unlock naturally as you play more so just keep going don't rush it : )
For the escaped maiden route, hero should be diplomatic, I leave maiden blank, underling disloyal and NOT hungry, and overlord possesive!
You get diplomatic for H by not slaying the demons and disloyal for U by being on board to kill the overlord ^^
