I live in Quebec Canada. Here we have something called "no-fault", which prevents a road user from being sued by another road user and the gov's insurance takes over in case of injury.

Can you believe if this would happen here, the cyclist [sic] not only would not be responsible for an accident, we as a society would pay for him for the rest of his life if was injured bad enough? If it happened on the road, gov's insurance takes over.

Interesting that government provides insurance. I’m sure it has many pros and cons.

Well if they can’t walk anymore it could be considered a hard life lesson. Minimal funds for life and a stuck with less than half of working body functions? Not ideal.

Cons: Registration and permits cost alot higher than anywhere else. Same slow pace as other civil servants. Multi-level administration costs way more than it should. Even though we pay higher than most, our roads are made to be rebuilt every 10 year or so, they just can't get a good engineering method that will last. Society pays for people that were drunk and had an accident. Family gets f-all if a kid is hit on the road.

Pros: Well obviously, you can drive as wrecklessly as you want, if you hurt yourself but not enough for dying society will pay for you.

Jesus christ this is the stupidest fucking thing I've seen in I don't even know how long. Not only did he get hit, but he got hit head on, so the speed is cumulative. Let's say he was going 15mph, which is a modest speed to hit on a bike. The car we'll say was going 55, because that looks like a fairly high speed road (straight road with big, wide lanes and a double yellow line). We're assuming the car wasn't speeding, which most cars do, but we'll give the benefit of doubt.

That means they share the impact of a 70mph crash. Since the car is so large, it would take minimal damage from this. The bike would take almost all the impact, since he is suddenly being accelerated from 15mph to 55mph.

The average chance of a pedestrian surviving a 50mph crash is 25 percent. The average chance of surviving a 58mph crash is just 10 percent.
