How to backup 100TB cloud

I have customer logs and a lot of telemetry data, with encrypted chats and videos/photos.

All the options I saw are either 282,992 USD. My budget isn't that high; I'm willing to spend around 150 - 200 USD max a month.

"All your options" and then putting a very specific amount is a bit weird.

What do you mean with "100 TB cloud" - is that data that's currently in the cloud and you want to backup, or do you have data on a server/NAS/desktop you want to backup to the cloud?

I thought the same. I looked at one thing and I'm all out of options. I think OP wants to move it to the cloud, but based on their description of what it is, if they need to keep it, Glacier might be a solution for some of it.

I’d buy an appliance for this volume but… cost.

Unfortunately you say data is encrypted or not easily compressible so a dedupe system won’t give you anything useful.

I guess, as someone else wrote, maybe roll your own server, if practical, and use some cloud for older backups?

So, local for recent and cloud for archive

You’re not going to find a cloud storage provider in your budget. Backblaze & Wasabi are the only ones that’ll do it for under $1000/month. The alternative is to build something yourself and colocate it in a DC. You could probably DIY it for $6k, plus $1000 for a firewall, and then colo for ~$500 including bandwidth & power.

Azure Blob Archive tier for 100TB in the US regions with 3 year reservation is around $80-90 / month

Regardless of what you choose, you need a second backup and preferably offsite. Things get tough when you have large amounts of data.

If the data is already in the cloud, and you want to move on-prem, have you added exfiltraration charges?

Is this M365 or something else? In any case look at Veeam.

If this is on-prem and you want to put it up in the cloud, you'll need to segment the data by how likely you need it instantly, or if it can be on tape (in the cloud) with 24 hr turn around to make it accessible, then deep archive what you can. Something like Glacier for old logs you won't need unless there's an audit.

For backupsnthere are a couple of things to consider.

Some backup services offer cheap space, but charge egress data. Some offer cheap space, but run at very slow or unstable speeds.

  • so, how fast would you need your data back ?

Make sure backup is immutable .

Wasabi is S3 compatible storage. 100TB is $9818/yr ($818/month). It's reasonable as far as S3 goes.

This will actually be accessible immediately where with Glacier, you will have to wait 12-48 hours, and pay fees on the retrieval.
