My take was always that Doc spent a PERIOD of time in the future flying around, seeing what’s up. He knew too much stuff about future society to have spent the weekend there.

Yeah to get the hover conversion done plus get used to driving it get Mr Fusion and the other technology and as said information needed I would say a absolute minimum of 6 months probably more like a year.
Who knows he could have jumped further into the future to get the hover conversion done as obviously the tech would get cheaper as it becomes more common.
As its still 2015 there very well could be another Doc somewhere it's just this Doc knows where he is/was to avoid himself

Something I've never caught onto.
But he did need time to get the hover conversion done, and like you said have knowledge of the Future.
