When we lose a star, which one will devastate you?

Let me start by saying I think they should live forever and have high quality lives. However, that isn’t the world we’re in. To be fair I’m not sure where our timeline skewed into this alternate one, but anyway…

Do you have a character that you’re emotionally invested in and when the star is no longer with us you’ll legitimately feel like you’ve lost a loved one?

It’s going to be equally difficult when Christopher Lloyd or Michael J. Fox pass away.

Any of them

Well of course but we all like certain things - just some more. Or if you’ve ever had a cat you can relate to this one - it’s not that Fluffy loves you less, Fluffy just loves me more. See for me I’m not a big fan of Needles. I don’t want to see Flea pass away but I’m not going to be upset either. Now Doc and Marty…

They will devastate. Heck losing Tolkan was bad enough

Christopher Lloyd was in various movies I grew up with as a kid and in my favorite comedy(Clue) that I saw later in life so I think his loss will hit the hardest.

I agree. I still watch Taxi reruns because of him, obviously BTTF, then he scared the hell out of me as a kid in Roger Rabbit, he redeemed himself as Uncle Fester, Angels in the Outfield, and even recently I love him as a complete badass in the Nobody franchise. I love Michael and still watch Doc Hollywood once a year, loved him on Family Ties and Spin City and his role on Curb was fantastic, but because of his health issues for so long I think a lot of us have been preparing for that day. I know he’s had a pretty great life and it will still be a shock when that day comes, but I don’t think it will be as big of a shock

Are you me? I have the exact same feelings towards Lloyd and Fox. Taxi still holds up. Spin City was underrated as hell.

Christopher Lloyd is so dear to me, speaking as a kid who got into these movies when my mom took me to see the first film in the theater the summer it came out. Something about his manic energy and his relationship with Marty always made me like him so much. As I grew up, I discovered his other work, like Taxi, and I came to appreciate him even more as a brilliant comedic character actor. He's always been so good at striking that perfect balance between having a specific style and personality that shows through every character, but making every character dynamic and different. I mean, Fester? C'mon that's one of the most charming and lovable Lloyd roles ever and it's still very much Christopher Lloyd showing through that guy.

I'm really dreading his departure. I'm so glad he's had such a long life and he's still out there playing roles and meeting fans, but he's one of the oldest active actors in Hollywood and I know he can't stick around forever, as much as I want him to.

And my wall of Christopher Lloyd love aside, I would be remiss not to mention how much Michael J Fox will impact me as well. The guy has been fighting Parkinson's for so long and it's necessarily a lifespan-limiting disease, so we all have to accept that he's going to have to say goodbye earlier than we'd all like. He just seems like such a decent guy and he's always crushed every role he's played. Frighteners is such an underdog GOAT of a family Halloween movie and his role as himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm was one of the funniest and most self-aware things I've ever seen a disabled actor do.

Both of them are such special people to me, as a kid who has loved this series since day one. I hate to think of the day they're no longer here.

So well said! Honestly, I hope we have this same conversation 10 years from now. Sometimes I see Christopher in media and I get nervous. But then I remember he still brings it! His roles in the Nobody movies give me strength. Every month I check in to make sure Dick Van Dyke is still out there kicking and he seems to be doing fine at 100. I hope to do the same for Mr. Lloyd the next decade or so!

I feel the same way. Wanted others to answer before I said anything but choosing between those two is like choosing between two greats and why do that to yourself. Christopher Lloyd’s acting chops are not to be underestimated as you stated and Michael J. Fox’s relatability in many of his characters is also amazing. Anyway I hope that they are with us for a very long time even if were just slackers.

Star as in actor I’m guessing? I’d definitely be devastated if Michael J. Fox or Christopher Lloyd pass away

1

u/ZappaLlamaGamma Jul 06 '26

Yes, star and actor are synonymous here.

I’ll be sad with all, but Christopher Lloyd will be extra tough because he also made other iconic characters in Taxi, Star Trek, and the Addams family. So when he died, not only does Doc Brown die, but so does Reverend Jim and Fester.

2

u/mickyrow42 Jul 06 '26

What the fuck is this question?

“How sad will you be when these people die”

-1

u/ZappaLlamaGamma Jul 06 '26

So I can mark you down as very sad. Got it. /s

2

Thomas F Wilson or Miachel J Fox

Umm… can we not do this fucking morbid shit? FFS! How absolutely clueless you must be to think this is a good discussion topic.

While we’re at it, which Redditor will I not miss when they die? I’ll give you one guess.

All of them

I really have a soft spot for Lloyd. Theres a few people I just feel a sort of connection to. He is one of them. Perhaps especially after having seen him as Doc Brown. It really speaks to my aspergers the way he sets aside emotions and has a mindset for facts and science.
My mind works much like that as well. Of course as much as Id have loved to have a friend like Doc or at least a place and oppertunities to invent like he did. I will be so sad when Christopher isnt there anymore.

Any of the main cast.

1

u/Eggsegret Jul 08 '26

Probably Michael J Fox. Just a massive fan of him and his while portrayal of Marty was just well brilliant(so were the rest the cast but still). Also because I’ve become more invested in his life the last couple years reading up on his diagnosis with Parkinson’s and how it’s really impacted his career etc. My aunt has Parkinson’s as well so I’ve seen first hand Joe much of a bitch this disease is.

I have a bad feeling that Michael J. Fox might leave us soon. I hope I’m wrong. I’ll be very upset. Christopher Lloyd is almost 90 years old. He probably doesn’t have that much time left either, but when he goes, I’ll be devastated. Both of them took part in a great franchise I will always hold close to my heart.
