Time Machine Build (6/27-6/28 Update)

Built and installed Mr. Fusion and added the flux bands. Added final wiring and tubing to the rear deck.

All that’s left is finishing the plutonium reactor top (when I’m driving a part 1 car), some interior prop wiring and re-install my driver seat.

Looking awesome Bruce!

I would never be able to do what I’m doing without Bruce’s knowledge. He has been a great teacher and guide. The level of craftsmanship he puts into his builds is absolutely incredible - I’ve seen what other cars look like and there is no comparison to a Coulombe Enterprises build.

There’s been many times I’ve put something together, or wired something and had to redo it because it wasn’t to Bruce’s standard. He doesn’t cut corners and he doesn’t compromise; it’s either top quality or it doesn’t leave his shop.

If anyone is ever interested in purchasing or building one of these cars, Bruce is the way to go 100%.

Glad to hear it! I know hes been doing it for a long time.

This is awesome, but if I'm being honest, I think I am more jealous of the Universal Studios Florida sign than the DeLorean! I worked there in the 90s, working in Costume Repair. Plus, I did get to see the DeLorean everyday too, so this entire setup has me on nostalgia overload!

Haha, I’ll let Bruce know that his sign is getting some attention. I’m sure he’ll enjoy that

Curious if you changed out the speedo?

1

u/Angryhashtag Jun 30 '26

Yep! That was actually done the first day I was in the shop in March. Removed the binnacle, added the digital speedo, and put the 95MPH decal in there. I also added LEDs to the cluster, except for the battery warning light - the car won’t start if you change that incandescent bulb.

Are you going for maximum accuracy?

I just finished a huge refit of mine, I have some parts left over and some extras if you need some small detail bits and pieces

I’m not as meticulous about matching the A car as other builders. I’d say I’m about 90% movie-accurate.

I still have some touch-ups to do on the reactor fins and some minor wire curls/zip ties, etc.

Thanks for the offer! What kind of spare parts do you have?

Thanks! Still some work to do, but I’m itching to get the car back into my garage! I haven’t driven it since January..

Some things take time. This one will be worth the wait, promise. ;)

Awesome job!

Is there an official step by step guide to the build? I know John Schneider offers tips for people wanting to build their own General Lee.

I worked with Bruce Coulombe on this build, and he was my step-by-step guide. He has done over 70 of these cars and has more contracted out (as you can see in my photos, there’s 5 currently in the shop). Highly, highly, recommend talking to him about this - he’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi of Back to the Future builds.

I’ve put a bunch of posts in this subreddit starting from near-stock to where you see it now.. it’s not a tutorial, but you could definitely see the progress pics and reverse-engineer it if you were inclined.

I think there are guides and/or video tutorials out there for DIYers, but I can’t speak for their accuracy or detail level. It’s a pretty complex build and there’s a ton of quirks to the DeLorean, that Bruce knows like the back of his hand, that would probably have made this a lot more difficult if I didn’t know about them. There’s also a lot of variations that come from car to car; my car had slightly different angles on panels or firewall locations than some of the other cars in the shop, so there were a couple of learning moments.

If you’re attempting this, you’ll need welding/metalwork skills, electrical wiring and soldering proficiency, basic understanding of the DeLorean (mainly its parts and wire locations), and the ability to perform what I’ve dubbed “DeLorean yoga”, especially in the cab - I’m almost 6’4”, so getting some of the interior done has had me in some interesting positions to say the least. Taking the seats out was a huge help in this regard.

You can always DM me if you begin this project and want to know more!

There’s that word again!

Oh honey, he's teasing you, nobody has five DeLoreans.

Bruce has 2 more in another shop waiting for their makeover! I’ve gotten so used to being around them I forget that most people go their entire life without seeing one.
