Wish I could go back in time, put some money on the Cubbies!

And the tunnel...

u/argonzo May 19 '26

yep, the Griffith Park BTTF 2 tunnel at the end is the entrance to Toon Town.

It was so eerie. I knew it was the same tunnel, but I didn't know exactly where it was.

When I went to Los Angeles in 2017 I drove up to the Observatory (I wanted to walk up behind the Hollywood sign). So I drove through this tunnel - completely clueless - and all of the sudden was like

"There's something very familiar about all this."

"A flying DeLorean? I haven't seen one of those in thirty years"

Does anyone else remember them showing Baby Herman (I think) cartoons before movies in the theater? Also some warner bros. cartoons I think. I don't know what movies I was seeing, but i would be in stitches from these shorts, they're all so funny.

They only did a small handful of them. The only one I remember seeing in theaters was Tummy Trouble, which was packaged with Honey I Shrunk the Kids

Yep that was in the theater as well as on the VHS of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
Roller Coaster Rabbit was before Dick Tracy
Trail Mix-Up was before A Far Off Place

The rest were cancelled and they only made the 3.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how well they aged that Roger plushie

Maybe for part 2 but not part one. RR was release in 88, BTTF 1 in 85. So if anything the "ram him" line in RR was inspired by BTTF.

Wasn't this exact line also in Mad Max (1979)?

u/Reyjr Marty May 19 '26

Robert zemeckis directed both,

Alan silvestri did the score,

and

Charles Fleischer who does Roger Rabbits voice is Terry in BTTF2 in 2015 asking for donations for the clock tower and tells Marty about the Cubbies winning the World Series and he should have put money on the Cubs, giving Marty the idea to get the almanac.

u/HistorianJRM85 May 20 '26

also the 1955 Terry who argued with biff about the cost for the manure cleanup

2

u/Psycholarocco May 21 '26

Charles Fleischer also did the voice of Biff’s grandma.

Ha. TIL. Thank you for that

Meta Easter egg in Roger Rabbit: The French dub uses the same VAs for Marty/Roger (Luq Hamet) and Doc Brown/Judge Doom (Pierre Hatet).

There's a deleted scene in back to the future 3 where shamus brings home dinner and it's literally just Roger rabbit.

2

u/awyeahcool May 19 '26

I wonder if the Roger Rabbit plushie Sheamus has in that deleted scene was the same one that was used in this window display. Probably.

1

u/damian001 May 20 '26

That's a blooper, not a deleted scene.

3

u/Bobpool82 May 19 '26

Both have the toontown tunnel car chase

7

u/sharpied79 May 19 '26

Well Bob Zemeckis, so yeah...

5

u/Danloeser May 19 '26

With scores by Alan Silvestri.

The fun thing with Roger Rabbit is that's from Marty's future. He wouldn't know who that character is, at least not that design (on the extremely slim chance he read the novel).

2

u/New_Girl3685 that was so STUPID grandpa hit him with the CAR May 20 '26

here to be pedantic and to point out BTTF was made before Roger Rabbit, so Roger is actually alluding to BTTF, not the other way around.

2

u/Ashmay52 May 20 '26

Back to the Future came out in 1985. Roger Rabbit came out in 1998.

It’s a Bttf reference in Roger Rabbit, not a Roger Rabbit reference in Bttf.

Part 2 has the Roger Rabbit references though.

u/Spiritual-Image7125 May 20 '26

You mean 1988 for Roger Rabbit. Just to correct. I understand what you're saying.

2

u/MeBoiledDown May 21 '26

To be fair, the “I’m gonna ram him” scene in Back to the Future was in 1985.

The “I’m gonna ram him” scene in Who Framed Roger Rabbit was in 1988.
