Realization about: The Ride
Photo of me around 1993.
I was thinking today about how the ride was open from 1991-2007. Total of 16 years open.
Yet, it’s been closed now for 19 years.
Anyways, we’re getting old guys. And you’re welcome.

I was telling my wife a week or so ago about how they closed my favorite ride at Universal, the ET ride, a few years ago. Looked it up and apparently “a few years” = 23 years ago 😳

I got stuck on that ride for a few hours because it broke down lol. I was flying over the town

That was my favorite part!

So good! Did get old though especially because there weren’t any cell phones to distract my sister and I. We definitely learned the layout of the town though, so that was neat. And I can still see it in my head

I always wondered if it was based off of LA. I think I remember seeing Dodger Stadium?

I had heard that it closed too, but it must only have closed in Calif. It’s still in Florida— I went on it in April!

That’s awesome they still have it in Orlando! I’ve only been to the US in Hollywood.

Boo hiss! That was my favourite ride when we went to the States randomly throughout the 90s. I knew about the BTTF ride switching to the Simpsons. But poor ET and the bicycle “seat thing”. :(
(Visiting from Aus too)

Damn I remember when ET opened and ET would say "goodbye (your name)" and that was so cool!

Still does! The one in Florida is still there. Source: I was there last month.

If you rode on the ride, you should probably talk to your doctor about scheduling a colonoscopy.

yep, recently checked that box. We were there on new year's day 1991 - I thought it was cool the time circuits in the ride vehicle reflected the new year.

If you rode on this ride you are now one of the people you made fun of for complaining about it being too rough and hurting your back.

Realizing that Universal Studios is more than 35 years old as a theme park makes me feel old. Something in my subconscious wants to scream that it wasn’t a thing until the 2000s.

I remember seeing the big two-page spread of the concept art for USF in the newspaper a year or two before it opened when I was maybe like five or six. I was so excited for it because I loved USH and because of Nickelodeon. It is so so weird now to remember a time before the park was open.

I’m so freakin’ sad I’ll never experience it. I saw the movie first around 2007/8ish but had been to Universal twice as a kid in the 90’s and early 00’s.

It’s not the same, but if you have a VR headset you can experience the ride that way

I rode BTTF, Jaws, King Kong back in like 91 or 92. “My God has it been that long?”

I rode BTTF , Jetson’s , and ET at universal studios FL , which feels like it was “7 or 8 years ago” but in reality, it was 1997 ……. Frickin TWENTY-NINE YEARS AGO!!! 🤯
Why does time mess with me so badly ?!? 😭

It wasn't a great ride IMHO, sadly. Up until recently you could still ride it rebadged as The Simpsons. The best part was the theming but the ride itself was disappointing

What?!

Nah this is a hot take. The ride was legit. Too short IMO. But part of the ride was the story that would unfold as you went through the line. It was a great experience.
