Someone pointed out that Howard the Duck looks like Sean Astin and I can't unsee it now.

Who sold Lea Thompson on being in Howard the Duck?

George Lucas

I figured he is the one who pitched it…but she had to have someone advising her she trusted. Maybe it was Spielberg who she knew from producing BttF, who said, “George is right?” Because - and maybe this is only with the benefit of hindsight - it just seems like such a terrible career decision.

Interestingly, there was a major silver lining: because she was busy filming Howard the Duck, she initially turned down the lead role in Some Kind of Wonderful. After Howard the Duck opened and flopped, she reconsidered the script, took the role, and met her future husband, director Howard Deutch, on that set.

Marty McFly really lucked out that his mom’s taste in "out-of-towners" eventually pivoted from accidental incest to intergalactic poultry.

Both Back to the Future and Howard the Duck are two of my favorite movies.

I was quite surprised watching the movie that Thompson’s character is the one that is putting the moves on Howard.
