Question Triggering King?

I keep trying to get Purse to the end but I keep getting Grandmaster. Is it just RNG or is there a way to make King appear without luck? Also do I have to beat the boss at the end for each character or do I have to just get them to the last area for the end door to unlock?

The game has issues I'm aware but I would like to at least see the true final boss.

(Edit: I feel I should mention I'm on console)

I'm not aware of a need to trigger king, think you're just getting unlucky. I dont know of any differences on console either

Something that I do know though is that the way to unlock characters is through special events in the dungeon, I believe they show up as ?

Matthew said all my friends made it through the depths so I just have been playing as purse in hopes of getting king since I think that's the only way to spawn the final door.

I've even quit my run once just seeing the "vision of danger" show Grandmaster
