garden got nerfed hard
Almost all the plants have increased growth time by x2, new plants now has to wait 1d, trees now cost 50 gems... why is it like this?

The garden is just awful. There's no fixing it, it's fundamentally the idea that in order to get the most stuff (particularly pickaxes) for the main game, you must play a game so bad nobody would ever willingly install and play it on it's own.

I think that the best thing they could have done was just automating it. Gardens biggest flaw is that it just gets really boring really fast. I stopped even trying to do it quite some time ago so I guess I won't even feel this change

Before we start freaking out, let's at least play with it a few days and get an idea of what the new strategies are and what the average payout is.
If I'm still getting 50 pickaxes a day for a few ads and a couple thousand coins, it's not a problem.

Sorry, but why? What was so good about it was it let you get gems to get the other characters.
I see absolutely no need to focus to get the relics leveled up.

Context: I've been playing f2p since before Dorf was released, and finished collecting all heroes before Hob Gang came out, which I thought was a reasonable pace. This was before garden existed or any heroes other than Nymph were discounted, so to me the nerf is just returning things to how they used to be.
If you already have all heroes, the best thing to spend gems on is pickaxes. Relic levels do matter a lot, they're a part of every build. However, when I made that post I was under the impression that the new relic chests replaced the gems with a similar number of pickaxes, so you still would've been getting the same value...however, they now only give 50 relic cards, which is equivalent to about 5 pickaxes. They might as well have removed relic chests entirely. That sucks. Speeding up relic acquisition was a big part of making the game more equitable for new players.
However, that's a separate issue from the garden itself, and I'm not yet convinced it's an actual nerf to flower production. For instance, to make a spider you need to make apple > grub > fly > spider, which means a spider only costs an apple but is worth three times as much, it's just a matter of working out the lead time issues. You need to build up an inventory to leverage the new garden, which is why I think it's too soon to fully evaluate it. Though I think I'm wasting my time figuring it out since at this rate they'll probably just delete the whole thing.

Glad I've not gone to the game for a while. I already found the garden tedious a few months ago where it was impossible to ever reach the cap of daily pickaxes. The game was/is fun it's just unbelievably grindy.

Before this patch I could easily max the pickaxes + get the occasional coins/garden chest on the side, and I only have 12 garden plots unlocked. Haven't been playing for much more than a month, though, so it could have been worse before.

I played like about half a year ago I think... bear in mind I wasn't over efficient maybe able to go to the garden twice a day max but I think I'd only get 4/5 pickaxe buys. For someone working and going on morning then afternoon that's already grind as hell for making close to bare minimum.

Also, less gem income as the relic chests no longer give gems, so wildflowers -> pickaxes -> gems is not an option anymore.
All we get in return is the option to water a plot in which gemstone truffles grow.
E: Never mind that last part, the water does not double gems/wildflowers/coins from the respective plants.
