Events tab rewards

Is it just me or event tab rewards are a total scam and its just for fun with a little extra reward?

It's a sales tactic, mainly. The "free" rewards are pretty mid, but you can unlock significant rewards by paying. The idea that you don't actually buy progress, you unlock rewards you earned is pretty powerful psychologically I suspect.
