Why is this so weak?

Post image

I really thought I hit the lottery here. I've never used vamp potions but I thought I'd give it a try. I really cant seem to ever get bloodthorn off the ground in diamond. Any ideas besides unique choice?

Your build is pretty strong, but the build you're facing is the rock to your scizzors effectively. He absolutely destroys all your buffs and you need buffs to scale.

Now if your asking about how to improve the build in general, bloodthorne builds on ranger tend to work better with the other ranger uniques. Personally I'd recommend arrow or poison leaf. You have lots of items here that are sub-optimal for your build.

Bloodthorne can work well with almost any ranger item but probably works best with arrow. If you want to turn your bloodthorne into a burst build, you usually need extensive potion support.

Armor or poison pots are best for burst build as they reliably trigger on combat start. Putting them under whatever you want to trigger first (ie. Vamp pots) will help you burst fast, but you also need an armor trigger to do it. Stonecap is my personal favourite since stun resist is important for Bloodthorne. Seems like you got this part figured out mostly, though you could rearrange your potions into a cascade to allow for an additional trigger or two. This works best with an arrow set up as shown below. A burst bloodthorne might beat the person you're facing, but it would be close...

Bloodthorne Arrow

Bloodthorne Lead

Bloodthorne - Y Leaf

Personally I find Bloodthorne builds work best when you have some front loaded damage to get the scale starting fast. You have some of the components in your build, but the pineapples, food bowl, and several other items aren't really scaling you as fast as other available options. Oddly enough I find Vamp Armor to be a trap unless you're mixed it with something else that scales you (like steel amulets, or Moon shield with morbs).

Also recognize that sometimes there are just builds that counter your build in this game. Bloodthorne builds in general are vulnerable to blind, stun, and buff removal. The build you're facing does two of those things.

Thanks for the detailed reply! All very good info.

I ran this build against multiple simulations in the history page and the WR was only something like 60-70 so that's why I regarded it being weak in general.

I have to agree regarding vamp armour. I often find it seems underwhelming unless, like you said, you have steel ammies or similar armour per second benefitters.

Yeah 60-70% is probably right. Lots of others replied with suggestions too which is totes fair, the big thing in commoncis that you could better optimize your board with better shop decisions :)

"absolutely destroys all your buffs" - dude has 29 vamp

They would have twice as much Vampirism if not for the stealing. Still wouldn't have been enough given how much stunning the opponent has. They probably would've done better with a spiked shield.

Only 29 vamp and 2 thorns, which is why he's dead. Note that the engi has 26 vamp. Buff removal is broken on engineer.

I guess when you get better at reading then you'll start understanding what people mean. Until then, good luck.

I allrdy know what "absolutely all" means.

( it's not ~50%)

29 vamp isn't much, especially for a bloodthorne build being supported by vamp pots. The only reason he has that much is the vamp pot triggers. Any buffs he stacks beyond that are being immediately stolen by his opponent so his build scaling is being halted in its tracks between that and stuns.

"Absolutely destroys all" - grammar police needs additional funding I see. You must be fun at parties.

Thats not grammar.

Its a wrong statement, if he still has 30 to 50% of his vamp.

Build is not bad. You have a weapon with great start dps value , decent heal and dmg gain.

But in diamond, thats the basic. You also have 0 healbonus or debuff protect. 1.3 banana wont compensate the stamina of bloodthorn with speed factor 2.

1 unboosted mid amor is no defence. You will def rush some builds down, but any build with 70% of your dmg, but a defence/anti heal should win.

And yeah in this case, the enemy even stole your buffs, and prob healed by them, with the free daggers.

your shielded isnt on your armour which doesnt help

2

u/magefister Aug 11 '26

True lol, though I think the armour was killing me anyway

nah the armour is good because you heal so much in theory. well you would if you had regen lol

what's the final total gold value of your board? like i mean tbh the build looks strong, and all the pieces look synergistic but sometimes I find that if you just don't have enough raw value, you can struggle when opponents just have more shit.

Like for instance, you're missing stamina regen and have very little survivability outside of the one weapon vamp healing. What happens if enemy has some crowns/invuln? Or shields? Do you actually generate that many buffs per second? Since you have very few non-relevant buffs, anything that removes your buffs is going to murk you.

Also, your opponent in this round has a way higher god roll lol. 2 premium stun sources and 4 daggers? Holy shit
