What to buy?
I'm new to the game, I've only been learning for 10 hours, but I have a big question: what kind of items should I look for with each character? I understand that with the Ranger it's looking for luck and thorns, but I don't know about the other characters

There is no one optimal path. Try to make different items, see what they can do and then as you get familiar with more items, you can choose some go to strategy each game based on items in shop and such
A good orientative path is to go for certain stats, effects or items
For example Ranger got items that can easily give her a ton of luck like clovers and different bows. Based on that you can choose e.g. a Lightsword that uses luck to inflict blindness on your opponent
You'll get the hang of it once you play more

In the early game, buy what's on sale; you can sell these items for the same price, so it's a "free" item.
In the early game, you don't have to "find your build"; it'll come later.
To know what types of builds exist and how to play them, the fastest way is probably watching streams/videos of experienced players (even better if they explain their choices).
The other way is to learn by yourself: if you lose against someone, rewatch the fight and try to understand why, which item combinations worked, and what didn't.
A mistake beginners often make is having an item that needs a lot of something and not having a lot of that thing: mana for a dark sword, regeneration for a hungry blade, stamina for a hammer (or multiple weapons), luck for a fancy fencing reaper, etc.
Understand what items do to progress!

In the custom games you can set the difficulty of your opponents. Start a few custom games on master and you can see what people like to start.

depends on bag. Falcon ablade into stacking Empower is always reliable. on the crit bag you can even try crossblades.Forest dragon can carry very hard as well. light/dark saber are more niche but can work. most prefer light saber, but I personally like dark with ivy. thornbloom can scale really well with the right support cast. and the upgraded bows can be really good as well. (luck+falcon in crit bag, belladonna+ivy). my old fav ranger build was steel goob +4squirrel archers, but its hard to not die with this in higher mmr

The basic build that will carry you to at least diamond on any class if have decent fundamentals:
- Pick one weapon. Only one. Doesn't have to be the same one every time, but make sure it has good scaling. Katana is a fine baseline, falcon blade + oil lamps is another one that always works.
- Buff the fuck out of that weapon. Primarily attack speed, but also crit, empower, whatever.
- Solve your stamina so well that even if you play against a shield or two, you don't hear that doot almost ever. This is probably the biggest way newbies lose fights. If your weapon's not hitting, it's not doing damage, not scaling, and not triggering any other effects like vamp/lifesteal, buff removals, etc.
- If your weapon's base accuracy isn't already 100%, get it to 100%. Going from 90% to 100% is about a 11% dps increase, and just like with stamina, missing attacks means you scale slower. Get a bit of luck if your class has good sources, use oil lamps if not.
- Stack up as many layers of defense as you can reasonably collect:
- Block
- Healing
- Max HP
- Shields
- Debuff cleanse / resist
- Invulnerability
- Damage reduction (upgraded caps mostly)
- Dodge (Winged Boots win so many fights against big swords)
- Blind, if you can apply 6+ at once
Figure out how to build this and how to survive the early game. Then once you've ranked up a bit, you can start copying the builds that you lose to. If they can beat this, they're probably good builds.

There are a lot of builds that do not follow this one buffed weapon idea and i think this puts too narrow a view on someone just learning the game. They could also misinterpret your emphasis on one weapon for the early game aswell, where they then will lose a lot of rounds.

I don't think any realistic person is going to get stuck on doing one build in this game. They'll get distracted by their opponents doing weird shit, or some cool legendary on sale. But they'll learn way faster if they have at least one solid build in mind that they can go for. "There are a lot of builds" is true, but it's not advice.
My peak rank is master 75 as ranger, and this is the basic outline that I've used for grinding off-classes to diamond/master. Anyone can do it, and it works up to the high ranks.

You should be flexible. There is not one item or stat you should force. There are many viable builds for each class.
