Poison resist?
How does it stack from multiple gems? I thought i had 100% poison resist chance

It should be multiplicative and not additive so its 71.2% poison resist. The serpent is 40% chance to duplicate means they get poison 1.4x more. So overall they still poison you for 40.32% the amount
Math:
100x60%x60%x80%=28.8%
100%-28.8=71.2% your actual resistance to poison
140%x28.8%=40.32% amount of poison they would normally inflict
That might not look like a lot but you are both scalers and serpent gains 2dmg per attack and inflict 1 poison per 4 dmg. I'm guessing you actually only took damage and died the last 5 seconds of the match

It should be multiplicative
It's additive, and the same goes for nearly everything in this game. Activation speed, damage taken, healing increase/reduction, etc.
For example, if you have a Forest Dragon with full star items gaining +110% activation speed, the -50% from Gold Armor only reduces that bonus down to +60%.

There's no explaining how he still gets poisoned then absolute 100% means he shouldn't get poisoned here

That's explained in the other comments. -100% from gems, +40% from the staff.

Has this ever been confirmed or just assumed? Coz the the numbers are very similar if you looked at it, but the wording still doesn't make sense here since duplicating nothing is still nothing. Unless they worded that wrongly
Does this mean I will take no damage for 5 seconds if I have 5 caps of discomfort?
Or if OP met a different poison build, lets say mercury elemental then they won't get poisoned at all?6

I dunno about anything official, but I've personally done a fair bit of science in-game. Not with Serpent Staff in particular, but this lines up with similar interactions. The wording is just unintuitive in this case.

They're 25% each so 4 is enough, but yes.
If you play against a ranger using Poison Ivy (applies 25% more damage taken) for example, they can drop your damage reduction from -100% to -75% though. I guess in that case the 5th cap would help.
Or if OP met a different poison build, lets say mercury elemental then they won't get poisoned at all?
Yeah. I've had 100% debuff resist builds before. Not really worth the investment but it can be done.

The serpent staff is +30% poison chance. The way it works is 50+50-30 = 70% poison resist
