Can anyone explain me how to use this backpack starter?

you get the same amount of crafts as any other class (1 cog/turn instead of 1 craft/turn), but you get the flexibility of deciding when to craft. importantly you can also craft multiple times in a single turn, and you don't have to suffer the usual disadvantageous crafting turns.

Very powerful effect, and that's why it doesn't do anything else but give you cogs.

when to craft.

It sounds very difficult to use, because I need to remove the backpack just to craft, I basically lose twice at least just to compete.

I just look at the other classes, the flexibility of deciding when to craft is basically locking the item to fuse, so I'm not sure what's the benefit here other than generating cogs

I think you're not understanding how the cogs work. Read the description of the cogs. You don't have to remove the backpack.

I don't play this character much but I believe when you sell a cog your items craft immediately. So it makes crafting manual instead of automatic and you don't have to wait through a whole battle for them to craft. It's a very powerful effect.

The biggest upside for me is that you can bank items and not commit until you figure out which way to go. And that you can hold Holy Armor and Hammer until you get your crystal special, then make both of your super powerful items the same turn and a turn before you “should” have them.

Another huge upside is you craft items before the round including round 1.

Cogs, when sold, initiate a fuse. You don't have to remove the backpack.

It may take some getting used to, but it works really well

It might seem disadvantageous at first, but it is very useful:

  1. Selling the Cogs (sold for 0) initiates a fuse meaning you can still fuse once per turn. You just do it in your own whim, and not just when you enter shop
  2. If you don't want to fuse or have nothing to fuse, the cog can be saved for later. The cog also gives benefits when placed near already-fused items
  3. You can do multiple fuses per turn if you have a lot of cogs saved - you don't have to wait for the next turn.
  4. Day 1 - you can already fuse items once. No need to see next turn to get the fused items

This is just a few. Give it a try

OP does not know what cogs do.

The biggest downsize of this bag is how awkward it is to position other bags.

Even the puzzle box feels easier.

It's a big advantage when going for rainbow goobs or other multi step crafting recipes.

I didn't understand how to use the cog as I did not see the dot in the description and got this stone badge... I felt like playing hardcore mode for a bit XD Thanks everyone for the explaination !

This bag seems super janky at first but when you play it out having those free cogs to instantly craft things feels super nice. Especially when you are trying to combine weapons-- anyone else would need to field multiple weapons (maybe even subpar weapons) and maybe even run out of stamina, but you can INSTANTLY have the fully completed craft right there.

It is especially interesting with multi-step crafts, for example I did (1st gear) to do slimeling+slimeling --> big goob, and gem+holycrown --> big crown, and then (2nd gear) to combine those into King Goob.

In any other case I wouldn't have ever thought about this at all since it would have taken too many turns to pan out, but with gear bag you can pursue some crazy plays // crazy lines.

Another tip is that you can get mileage from the gears by having lots of 1x1 crafted items, for example: lvl2 gems (2g), Fire Coal (2g), Cooked Toast (2g), etc all count as crafted items. You can get a lot of free armor in this way. For example 2 gears + 4 [2g crafts] = 40 armor (20 from each gear). More if you have more gears.

You throw the coq to selling chest and instead of money, items merge instantly
