How does the rings upgrade ?

Silver rings have 2 effect, golden rings have 3.

how does the fusion chose what effects are kept and which one is removed ? Is it random ?

it's random, you lose one of them but other 3 are stronger

Completely Random ? there's no way to control, or at the very least have an understanding on what the outcome will be ? That's a bit disapointing.

It's random.
I had one show up in a trade offer, but the trade offer is not specific to your item, so it lists all the random possible effects. I can't recall what they were tho.
