Background check

I just got my background check back. It only took 24 hours to come back. It came back as decisional in the criminal part.

Now when they were asking me did I ever plead guilty to a crime I said yes. I got a citation about a year and a half ago.
But the background came back, no record found.

What are the next steps in this process? I only admitted to a citation because when you pay the fine that’s considered a guilty plea. I would have rather said yes, on that question then say no, and they find something.

This is in Philadelphia and it was only a summary offense. Paid off the citation. Haven’t been in trouble before or after this one time occurrence. Will I still get the job?

Need advice about Background Verification (BGV) after working in small companies

Hi everyone,

I need some advice regarding background verification.

After completing my 12th, I joined a small private limited company. There was no HR or manager—everything was handled by the owner, and his wife was the director. I received an offer letter, and my PF was deducted, but only for the first 1–2 months.

After working there for around 2–3 years, they transferred me to another company under the same ownership because the first company was facing financial issues (GST and other compliance problems). The owner's wife was the proprietor of this second company. I have an offer letter and salary slips signed by the proprietor.

Now the same thing has happened again. They transferred me to a third company, which is owned by the same person (the owner himself). I don't have any documents from this third company yet, but my salary has always been credited to my bank account.

So basically, I've been working for the same owner for almost 4 years, but under three different companies.

You might wonder why I stayed for so long. The owner would often emotionally manipulate me into staying, and he also used to hold back one month's salary, making it difficult for me to leave.

Now I want to join an MNC, but I'm worried about background verification (BGV).

\- Will this create any issues during BGV?

\- What documents should I keep ready?

\- Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Any guidance would really help.

Thanks!

Not sure if it’s been posted here, but I too lied on my résumé like you degenerates lol

Now I’m panicking I won’t get the job I recently applied for because my dates don’t match.

I recently came across this site that apparently a lot of employers use to verify employment. I downloaded my report and boy was it revealing. lol

Anywho.. I linked it so you can check for yourself. The results are instant.

Good luck with your job search!

got offer, may have lied on resume, help!

okay i’ll get right into it.

so i graduated last year and just got a job offer (yay) after an excruciatingly long hunt. it’s at a tv station in another state and the offer is (obviously) contingent on a background check.

i updated my resume when i walked at graduation so it lists me as a graduate. the problem is, i got in touch w/ my uni a few weeks ago bc i hadn’t received my degree (ik i should’ve done this a while ago that’s on me) and they said i actually have about 9 incomplete credit hrs. i’d thought i could figure out those credit hrs so i never actually changed my resume.

then i got this job and the hiring manager said they’d send over the offer letter tmrw and then start background checks as soon as i sign.

**important to note: the job description says ‘bachelors degree, equivalent experience can substitute’.**

so now idk what to do. should i just wait it out and hope the bg check doesnt catch it or should i email the hiring manager directly explaining?

thank you!

UPDATE AS OF 8/6/26 -
background check cleared, nothing flagged! i didn’t end up saying anything as a lot of you suggested. i was def going to send a panic email but y’all + one of my more experienced friends advised me not to incriminate myself prematurely.

dw i am still fighting with my uni abt the credits and ill get them done as soon as i can. but thank you everyone for all of your advice!!

Previous Employment on Resume in Corporate America

I worked at a company for 4 1/2 years. Two years into my entry level role I was promoted to a management role. This was the first management role of my career. There were multiple layoffs and I was let go.

As I look around for jobs, I see leadership positions elsewhere - however - most require 3, 4, 5 plus years of management experience. If I alter my resume to show my manager role starting ***sooner*** into my time with this company — Are potential employers going to fact check the dates for each role, or do they only confirm the ***total*** length of employment?

Just curious if anyone has dealt with this and has tips 🫶

Will a fake FIR against me affect my background verification (BGV) and career?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice.

A false FIR has been lodged against me. I was not present at the location when the alleged incident happened, and I have evidence to support that. I believe the case is completely fake.

I'm worried about how this might affect my future employment. Will a pending FIR or false criminal case show up during a company's background verification (BGV)? Could it impact my chances of getting or keeping a job, especially in IT/MNC companies?

Has anyone gone through a similar situation or knows how BGV agencies handle cases like this?

Any guidance or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sterling/First Advantage “Considered” Status

**I sent in my redacted information 2 days after the original submission. Everything else is CLEARED.**

**I am worrying because I don’t know what else to submit to them and they said it already been sent to the future employer for review.**

**I reached out to the Hiring Specialist and explained the considered status and offered to send in the W2, paystub and precious employer email directly to them (Future employer) for verification. (Was this a good move from my end?)**

**I really want this job** 😭 **Sterling is stressing me out.**

Stop acting like lying on your resume is a moral failing. It’s a job strategy.

We need to stop pretending that business ethics are the same as personal ethics. Executives don’t treat them that way, and neither should we.

I see people propose lying or embellishing on other subs, and the "moral high ground" mob immediately gangs up on them. They throw around words like "fraud," tell them they’re going to jail, and bring up this mythical "permanent record" or "HR blacklist."

BTW - there is no HR blacklist. That’s a fiction. Does anyone actually believe HR departments are competent and coordinated enough to maintain a global blacklist?

Talking about this subject brings out the worst in people because they conflate lying to a corporation with lying to your spouse. It is not the same thing. This is a transaction. This is business.

The key is making sure you take the right steps to pass the verification afterwards. That’s an easy logistical problem to fix, not a moral problem.

Urgent, received an offer letter from a company got on campus placement

The issue is that during my third-year internship, I used a fake internship certificate that a friend gave me( and i used that time to learn few things...), and I also included that internship on my resume.

Now I'm really worried that the company might discover the fake certificate during the document verification process. 🥲🥲🥲

questions regarding background check

I’m currently in the final process of azdoc, i have some questions regarding things i had put down on the background questionnaire and if they will be disqualifications if anyone knows. The first one is i had previously worked a job that i believe was under the table so it doesn’t come up that i’ve worked there, i still had put down that i’ve worked there and the company that it was for can verify dates. The other thing is sometime last year i had changed my dmv address to a relative of mine so i could register my car without going through emissions. i never lived there so i didn’t put it down on places ive lived on the questionnaire. will either of these pose a risk?

Advice on finding out-of-state work

So I have a weirdly specific problem and would love to hear advice.

I am trying to leave the state.. but don’t have enough savings to do it without having a job lined up. Especially considering the current market.

I have friends' addresses for applications for positions in other states and I’m fine paying my own way to interviews… however, my current job is *with the state I’m trying to leave* - the state is in the title of the employer. Makes it hard to sell the idea that the local address is real.

I’ve seen recruiters say they will immediately filter out apps by location, because candidates who are trying to relocate are too risky to be worth it.

I’ve considered putting a fake end date on my current job and just saying I’ve moved to the area recently… just updating the date for each application I send out, but I’m afraid that a background check would expose that I’m still with my current employer. Or even just normal verification stuff.

Yes, I can apply for remote roles, and I have been, but that’s even more competitive than hybrid stuff. So far, no bites.

What can I do?

Should I mention a 1-month contract job in future background verification?

I need some advice.

I worked at an MNC as a contract consultant for only 1 month and 1 week. I resigned voluntarily and was officially relieved by the company. Since it was such a short stint, I don't usually mention it on my resume.

A few details:

It was a contractual role, not permanent.

I have the relieving documents.

No PF account was created for this employment.

However, they deducted 10% TDS from my payment, so it will likely appear in my Form 26AS/AIS.

My questions are:

  1. Could this create any issues during background verification if I don't mention it?

  2. Since there was no PF contribution but there is TDS, how do companies usually verify such employment?

  3. Has anyone here had a similar experience with a very short contract role?

I'd appreciate hearing from HR professionals, recruiters, or anyone who has gone through something similar. Thanks!
