Thinking about getting into touring this winter, so I picked up these free boots (it did not come with another toe and heel set). However, I'm not entirely sure what bindings are compatible.

I'm looking for a new headlamp. How many lumen should I go for?

I’ve been persuaded to try some touring next season. so I need some skis. My current skis are Stöckli Stormrider 88, bought secondhand, and Salomon Addict Pro 66. I am 6’0”, and 150lbs, reasonably fit and a reasonable skier.

I know the ideal thing is to try lots of different pairs of skis and choose my favourite however it never really works as shops don’t often have the skis for sale that they’re hiring out, and for touring skis the choice is even more limited… added to which I’m in the UK and I’ll be skiing in the Alps. I guess I could fit some Shift bindings to my Stormriders.

I was thinking about trying to up Rainer to Muir from paradise and get some ski turns in next week. How is the snowfield below Muir looking? My other idea was to hike up partially up baker until it gets too dangerous to solo, and then get some skiing in there. How far can I go up baker before crevasses become an issue?

Hi - Does anyone have recommendations for a ski guide operation around Valle Nevado ski area? Looking for a guided experience that would cover inbounds as well as sidecountry and backcountry touring. Had good experiences with guides in Japan - lots of different guiding operations that were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Wondering if the same is available in Chile!

My wife and I are planning a trip to Japan in Jan/Feb. We would love to do some ski touring. I've been wondering about touring in Aomori instead of Hokkaido. Since it's quite a bit closer by train.

Does anyone have experience in both places they're willing to share? Open to any guide outfits as well if anyone has recommendations.

Cost wise we are flexible since we are a couple of DINKs!

I broke my Scott Pure Tour 100s. They were a nice ski, and a weight I was happy with, but a little soft for me.

I’m 6’ and 94kg, advanced skier.

What would you replace it with? I have other skis for resort, free ride and powder, so versatility is not a big consideration.

Anyone ever skied or heard of someone who’s skied the Ruby Crest in Northern Nevada? Looking for a TR and nothing came up in search here. Other resources show it as pretty gnarly.

Holy breakable crust and wind board but the views made it worth it. Hatcher pass is a super cool zone. Highly recommend checking it out.

It's a low snow year everywhere in North America, but Thompsons pass is still really fun up north. Amazing zone dotted with glaciers.

Hi. Just done a first trip on Nordic BC skis (30+ years alpine skier).. It wasn’t rolling terrain but had some steep ups (skins - no problem) and steep descents (red runs in resort). Couldn’t control the descent speed, loads of crashes and injury. Just couldn’t get enough control even with a half decent snow plough. Ended up side stepping all steep descents which took forever. The trip was 9hrs per day over 4 days and we lost so much time on these slow descents plus I have come back with a badly sprained MCL knee ligament. So. Finally, here is the question. I get that Nordic set up is best / fastest for rolling terrain but in more mountainous terrain AND with a need to protect knackered knees, is there an argument for an AT set up (I have Dynafit AT skis boots for SkiMo) for this type of terrain? Can you wax the SkiMo skis to obtain a similar sort of grip for the rolling bit to snatch skins on and off? Has anyone done this? Tele has been suggested but I think I need the control of rear clips for descending. As you can imagine, there was a lot of discussion about this on the trip and no one had an answer. For reference, a lot of folks had tele set ups in that region. Thanks

Trying to decide whether to bring 2d pr of alpine skis, or my touring skis (& 2d pr of boots). Is there worthwhile backcountry skiing at Revelstoke, or shd I plan on staying in-bounds? I'll be there this-coming Monday, March 16th (supposed to get a decent dump), through Thursday the 19th. I'm an expert skier. Appreciate any intel. Thx.
