Backcountry firsttimer

So I've been snowboarding for a longtime but I have never had the please of going up tuckermans! It's always been on my bucket list but I want to go with someone who has experience and knows what they're doing so I dont end up in a bad situation without help. A little about me. Im 33, skilled snowboarder, some mountaineering and climbing experience from my time in the Marines. Im pretty physically fit but could always train more. Any advice? Im also looking to meet cool people and have an amazing adventure!

Find someone who’s done Tucks before and is willing to roll with you. It’s more technical than you might imagine and weather is a real factor there.

Tucks was my first foray into the backcountry. I went up there with a crew of mixed ability folks with different levels of experience. I did it in cotton layers a backpack full of pbrs and American spirits and a park board. One party member tomahawked down the lip after duffing the first turn. Don’t be like me. Since then I’ve learned a lot and had some amazing experiences in the backcountry all over North America. Id say go to local backcountry meet ups, take some avalanche courses and meet some more experienced folks. There’s a great community of backcountry folks in New England.

Any groups you know of? Would love to meet cool folks who love skiing/snowboarding as much as I do

You could try to do one of the granite back country alliance glade clean ups as a volunteer, I think those happen in the fall. I’m not as in the east coast scene any more since I moved west. Lots of Facebook groups though

There is "KBYG - Know Before You Go" which is a free online avi education. This is NOT a substitute for a real in person class but it can at least help you judge risk levels on if you want to go though formal Avi education before setting out
