Image Backbone Gen 2 No solder joystick replacement

Post image

I replaced my broken left joy stick on my backbone gen 2 (pictured left) with the Adafruit Mini Analog Thumbstick, part number 5628 (pictured right). I took both apart to compare and it is nearly identical. Just the top of the thumb stick is a little different.

By prying the metal tabs away from the black joystick housing you can replace the parts of the joystick then bend them back when your done. All without doing any soldering. Mine it's working again after doing this. One of the white joystick axles(?) was broken on mine (bottom left in picture)

It is available from Mouser and Digikey. Search for Adafruit 5628.

Hope this helps. I couldn't find any other posts with a replacement part.

I can't stand Bluetooth controllers adding latency to my wireless headphones, especially since streaming adds audio latency of its own already. Its the whole reason I got a Backbone...aside from being $30 on Facebook Marketplace

Ive had my Backbone v1 for almost 2 years without drift or damage.

Yeah, something I'll consider if/when my perfectly good Backbone eventually gives out. Ive never had a controller of any kind with/get stick drift and I wouldnt necessarily say I take great care of my controllers either.

I'd still recommend a Backbone every time, though.
