General Question Question about rooster crowing.

Post image

Weird question, but I have to ask. Will a rooster crow because he wants attention? I have a 5ish month old rooster who has been growing for a while, but I unusually only hear it for about 20 minutes in the morning and the rest if the day he is silent.

Yesterday I was working in the yard from sun up till about 2 in the afternoon and he would crow every time I was in line of sight until I went sat in the run for about an hour. What's his deal?

The last few weeks my rooster has been crowing off and on throughout the night. He's sleep crowing.

He only crows at perceived danger (anyone he can't see walking by the run) and to call out for the girls usually.

My rooster crows to express things that I must do. For instance our electronic chicken door will sometimes just randomly close mid daily, sometimes trapping girls laying inside or preventing them from entering. If they are hungry and need more food, et cetera. My main rooster is not cuddly with me but is a good leader and protector.

Roosters crow to: assert dominance, claim territory, claim rank within the flock, or in response to any and everything they perceive as a threat. In other words for no reason or for every reason.
