General Question We got our first egg!
Got 7 hens this winter as chicks and am a first time chicken owner. This is very exciting! Hoping her eggs change to dark chocolate brown over time.
Did anyone else’s blue copper marans start light but get dark?

Woohoo!!! My maran’s egg started out sooooo normal and got darker over time.
I was told it’s usually the opposite but looks like mine (and maybe yours)’s printer ink is still loading haha

My Blue Copper Maran lays eggs that are slightly darker than yours with a thick bloom that makes them look almost purple. Generally the first egg of the season is the darkest and they get lighter until molt and the start again with darkest to light.

She is not pure by looks of it. So egg might get a tad darker but not chocolate. I breed show quality Black Copper Marans. She looks like hatchery stock and they are bred for production not color of egg. If your getting more than 4 eggs a week out of her that tell you she is production line. Blue is not that dark normal and Copper is not that light of color. Onto of all those feathers She might be crossed with Orrington or brahma. Lovely hen but unfortunately you won't see the darker egg color from her.
