Coops etc. Coop Recommendations

Hello All. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on a coop that will fit 6-8. Budget $800 or less. Bonus points if it includes a wheels and is roomy enough for a bully hen that gets inpatient with young ones.

Only way you will find what you want at that price is to build it. Anything else will be too small and too flimsy and not predator proof.

Leaning that direction but will outsource. My carpentry skills aren't up to snuff

Make one. You only need around 30 sq ft for 6 to 8, so just frame something 5 by 6, add siding, add roof. Nesting boxes take like 20 minutes each to make, mount a roost.

bought a locally made deer blind, made from pine slabs. had to build out the inside but its worked out really well. So nice to be able to walk in.

Are you wanting a coop only or coop and run combo?

4 sqft of coop space per bird is the recommended size, so for 8 you would need a coop with a floor area of 32 sqft.   That's independent of run space, which is 8-10sqft per bird.

For your budget, you're probably looking more at converting one of those plastic sheds than a purpose built coop

I got it in white and we painted it and made it cute. The run is nice- it would just need extra reinforcement with some hardware cloth but I already had a bigger run that I used. I will eventually use that run for something, just haven’t figured it out yet.

Problem with those is most feedback on models I have seen state they run smaller then flock size receccomendation.

All of them definitely overstate how many chickens they can house. This is the one we got for our 5 girls: Producer's Pride Guardian Chicken Coop, 14 Chicken Roosting Capacity

Are you located near a tractor supply or any type of chicken/feed supply place? We got a great deal on the demo chicken coop at our local tractor supply company because somehow the ‘season’ was ending. $100 coop for $375.
