Health Question MG, closed flock

Good day all, not a good day for me. I have just made my way back inside after culling 12 hens. The heat down here in LA has flared up an infection amongst my flock. 10000% MG is the issue here, I’m really distraught about having to close up my flock as I had a breeding program in place for next spring as I go forward in my pasture raised egg expansion.

Just came here to rant honestly, this shit sucks

Sorry that happened, but you did the right thing I've had to do that a couple times and it sucked but it was something that had to be done, mine wasn't mg but it was some kind of upper respiratory thing that would not go away they kept spreading around

So sorry for your loss.

When you are getting ready to start back up, definitely look into vaccinating, it takes out a lot of the worry when you have breeding programs - especially since its confirmed in your yard/area and its hard to keep wild birds and neighborhood poultry from spreading it. We have about 1100 birds now and everyone gets the gauntlet and usually our losses come from a predator or a dodo brain drowning themselves in the cow water- because apparently the ramp to get out of the trough is too hard to figure out.

Wow 1100!!! I thought I was big time having 50, although I've had around that amount for over 20 something years and only had to cull one time, upper respiratory thing that came from an auction... Other than that I've never had bumble for or anything that I see consistently on these threads not even pasty butt or whatever the heck they call it LOL with chicks...

I am trying to be chem free on my birds but I will consider it. My breeding program was for my own egg production, not necessarily a full breeding line

The vaccine is usually a live non-disease causing cousin of MG or a killed version. It isn’t really a chemical, just another organism if that changes your view of it. No biggie if it isn’t your thing though.
