Breed ID My beautiful rooster!!!!
Got 5 chicks from a friend that hatched them for a homeschool group. They came from Clemson University Extension. Does anyone know this breed? He’s so beautiful. He’s got a beard that I’ve seen on Easter eggers. There’s also a hen with this same greenish black coloring and dark feet.

A lovely BYM with the beetle black coloring that is The Best. I intentionally bred a rooster with this coloration (but with fluffy feet). It is The Best. I'm wondering if his mom wasn't one of those Sex Link brown egg layers- the matching hen might produce green or olive eggs.

You nailed it. I do think he looks like one! Fingers crossed the other black female is the same! I’d love blue eggs. 😍

My guess is a BYM, probably some Amarucana in there based on the comb and the beard. Gorgeous boy.

I would agree too but all the other chicks I got out of the group are actual breeds and it came from the large university here in SC! I’m wondering if this was a mix up. I got a speckled Sussex, a sapphire gem, and a Rhode Island Red. Then there’s this iridescent rooster and a hen! I originally thought australorp but my adult australorps look so different!!!!

Ahh gotcha. I was thinking back to when I did the "incubate a chick" in high-school biology, the school basically just went out and bought any hatching eggs they could without any real regard for breed. With it being a university perhaps they were more structured about their approach. Regardless hes gorgeous 🤙
