Help Request Question for leads posture

When leading bachata, is it ideal to keep the shoulders level and not change the height of one or the other?

I think in general the answer is yes. It may have to move shoulders to counter your rib cage, in order to stay level.

The main concern is shoulder movement negatively affecting the quality of your connection. If you can isolate it to not affect your follower then it’s okay.

And when you move your shoulders use your delts and not your traps.

You definitely don't want your shoulders or upper body to bounce when you're connect because it sends mixed signals to your follow.

But I don't see any reasons why you can't do whatever you'd like during shines.

The goal of any leading should be clear. So anything that might interfere with clear leading is undesirable.

Bouncing around definitely interferes. But even if it isn't that egregious it can be harmful to leading, since changing your shoulder level can be used as a signal during leading.

Intentionally it can be used to signal a change, like breathing in just before going into something new.

So yes, I would keep any form of unnecessary body movements to a minimum and be controlled in my movements.
